Re: Okay, seriously -- What the f**k?!

Just bear in mind, again, that patriotism does not equal uncritical flag-waving, "my country right or wrong." Ummmm... yeah, it does, dude. That's EXACTLY what patriotism is. Well, I think patriotism is loving your country so that you would rather it be right than wrong. "America the...

Re: The STAR WARS MONTHLY MONDAY Thread

The no body = no death point is a good one. Perhaps it just goes to Palpatine's overbearing hubris, that he doesn't worry about the fact that his "little green friend" (a dumb line, but McDiarmid somehow pulls it off) has survived. He may assume someone (it turns out to be Vader) will go o...

Re: The STAR WARS MONTHLY MONDAY Thread
I HATE the Yoda fight. HATE, HATE, HATE it! ... I agree, it's out of character. I always saw Yoda as a teacher, not a warrior. Plus, c'mon -- he's a tiny, wrinkled old muppet! Really, you're gonna turn him into a badass now?
I kind of agree with you and kinda don't. I ...

Re: The STAR WARS MONTHLY MONDAY Thread

Ok, I'll add my two quatloos -- um, Republic credits -- to the alphabet soup: TESB SW (i.e., ANH <g>) ROTS ROTJ AOTC TPM Some days, I might give ROTJ number 3 instead of ROTS; but ROTJ recycles an awful lot of stuff from Eps IV and V (another Death Star? Really? What is this, the Star Wars' universe...

Re: BREAKING NEWS!!

Fist thing, You have NOT let the fans down, shit happened to the best of us. Agreed! I feel bad things are so rough for you and your family right now, and will certainly miss hearing you on a weekly basis; but you don't have to apologize to us! At least I don't think so. I just hope life will impro...

Re: Okay, seriously -- What the f**k?!

I LOVE Firefly and Serenity, both were insanely fun without being shallow and were solid sci-fi serial stuff. This has actually made me interested in the Avengers film. I am beginning to think Whedon can do no wrong, frankly. (I haven't yet read his X-Men run, but I do own all four TPBs and they ar...

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.ap.org/guillermo-del-toro-direct-new-haunted-mansion-ap He's an insanely talented director! Has anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth? The only director more qualified would be Terry Gilliam! Well he may of directed a good film like Pan's Labyrinth, but has anyone seen Hel...
Brubaker is an idiot. He lost all credibility when he chose to portray honest, everyday, hardworking, concerned Americans as little more than ignorant rednecks, bigots, and hatemongers. Not to mention that his run on the character is disgraceful. There, I said it.
Eh, I...

Re: Scott's soundtrack/film score appreciation thread

I second the suggestion of the Van Helsing score -- it's a good one. Silvestri's score for "Beowulf" is also one I enjoy. I will try to remember to post all my Zune's movie score selections later -- it's a long list!

Re: Okay, seriously -- What the f**k?!

Also, I thought Brubaker's comments in the article were enlightening: "In 2007, Brubaker told the New York Daily News: 'What I found is that all the really hard-core left-wing fans want Cap to be standing out on -- and giving speeches on -- the street corner against the George W. Bush administr...

Re: Okay, seriously -- What the f**k?!

Well, to be devil's advocate here: patriotism does not equal "jingoism" and sloganeering, which is what the article goes on to say they are trying to avoid. "He wants to serve his country, he's a good person," it says. I could see some kind of "edgy" or "subversive...

Re: Captain Bujold

Dude I was in grammar school when the Borg debuted! Sigh. Anyways, I think that the main complaint heaped on the Borg at the time was that they were "cheap" Star Wars/Terminator/Mad Max knock-offs, and were not appropriate for Star Trek heavies. Ok, "Terminator" I could see -- m...

Re: Captain Bujold

What is also funny is that the Borg are held in high regard now, but if you read in contemporary magazines (such as Cinefantastique) when they first showed up they were met with quite a bit of derision! Now that is something I didn't know -- or remember, since I was in late high school/early colleg...

Captain Bujold

As much as I dislike "Star Trek: Voyager," I have always been curious to see Genevieve Bujold, first cast as Janeway, in the role. I didn't know any footage of her performance existed, but here it is: http://blog.koldcast.tv/2010/koldcast-news/14-things-you-didnt-know-about-star-trek/" onc...

Re: Two True Freaks! Episode 128 - Star Trek Monthly Monday

If you guys had to recommend one "era" or run of comics to look for at a Con, what would it be? Never really read much in the way of ST comics personally. I would definitely recommend the era that Chris and Scott are covering on the show, DC's first Trek series, from 1982-88 (ish)? And, o...

Re: Scott's soundtrack/film score appreciation thread

McCreary hit my radar with "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles". I really enjoyed that series and his scoring of it. I've found a couple of albums of his work on the series and they are very, very good. I'll be watching for more of his work in the future. Yes, definitely a thumbs up ...

Re: Scott's soundtrack/film score appreciation thread

Anything from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series. ESPECIALLY the episode where the Galactica comes to New Caprica to rescue everyone from the Cylons. Bagpipes are cool when used correctly, IMHO. That's a nice moment, to be sure, although my favorite material from McCreary's BSG stuff is an...
