Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Since there are about 4 million hours worth of genre material in existence, I wanted to solicit the suggestions of the board members on things that might get overlooked but actually kick a fair amount of ass - I'll start since it just happened to me yesterday - I snagged a 1080 BRip of Batman Beyond...

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

Finished the show a few days ago - definitely going to bust out the Marvel Minis from the 80s now... First up: FF Talk Whataburger does indeed rule. Steak n' Shake ain't too shabby, either. They just opened a few In n' Out Burgers here (Dallas) in the last week or so - there are literally people wai...

Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

The only thing I remember about the TV series in question: Freddy's Nightmares - Robert Englund is milking this teat to the bitter end. Friday the 13th - Hmmm...good but totally unrelated concept...oh shit...that redhead is HAWT! Hey! When's the next show rolling out? Aren't we about due for some se...

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

I can understand why a younger person in this day and age would not necessarily be blown away by STM - in the Post-Smallville/CGI blowout era, STM could seem to be almost 'quaint' in its innocent/wholesome delivery - not nearly enough grit or angst by today's standards. Personally, I always liked II...

Re: EXCLUSIVE TTF SCOOP! The Revamped Star Tours!

Excellent! I was just perusing a few old school Wonderful World of Disney eps: Man in Space + Man and the Moon (both from 1955!) and the wife walked by and tossed out a WDW trip scenario for the summer... This brings to mind the brief/aborted Alien Encounter attraction from Lucas/Disney - conspiracy...

Re: Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Oh, I agree that the Eva in GR is attractive for sure - she just seemed a bit out of place. The Incredible Hulk kicked ass - Ghost Rider maybe could have if it just picked one - Zany or Serious - it was the waffling that threw me off a bit. I certainly enjoyed GR - but viewed immediately after IH it...

Re: Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Yesterday's viewings: The Incredible Hulk was 100% badASS! Hadn't watched this since it was released on BR - holy shit! How did this get relatively shitty reception? Absolutely a HULK comic book brought to life - Ed Norton is a fine actor and did a nice job of giving a Bill Bixby running man vibe CG...

Re: Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Okay - Mystery of the Batwoman was rock solid! I really dug the look of Batman in this - best of old/new vibe so far, IMO - a nice bit of the Bob Kane style with an update. The voice cast in these are fucking stellar - and I appreciate the innuendo and 'grown up' dialogue/themes. I'm also digging ba...

Re: Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Damn! Forgot about the Rocketeer - haven't seen it in well over a decade - I do remember thinking that it had a Raiders of the Lost Ark type feel (in that they nailed the 1930s Serial vibe) and of course the source material is perfection.

Dave Stevens was a fucking artistic genius.

Re: Kicked My Ass By Surprise

Right on! I remember the show about it - I've had a crap copy forever - clearly, I need to get a decent version of the movie. Okay, that's officially on the list for the week. Thanks~ that's just the sort of thing I was looking for...stuff that one might pass over like The Phantom or The Shadow movi...

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

Greetings all - Long time listener/lurker and semi-regular emailer - been registered on this bitch for 6 months, so I figured I might as well join the fray... Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

Absolutely! Much like Chris has his Film School Goggles on at all times I have a background and longtime obsession with music production and talk radio, so I automatically think in terms of segments, flow, etc...the rabbit hole just appears on its own and I am off and running. That and I've been a c...

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

Richard Grieco!

I remember the 30 seconds that he was touted as the 'New Johnny Depp' circa 1988.

I also have a hazy recollection of being heavily sedated and repeatedly confusing him with the guy who played Krycek on the X-Files.

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

Just f'n around the intarwebs and saw this nifty little Asylum Films abortion that is on its way: http://www.mtv.com/videos/movie-trailers/645119/almighty-thor.jhtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Kevin Nash - yep, Diesel is Odin! Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

I saw the Langella Dracula in the theater - I was 10 or 11 and it was the only Dracula movie that actually creeped me out and stuck with me. Watched it a few months ago - it still holds up rather well. While the Freak Flags are waving mightily over Trek/SW/Comics/Horror and now even an affiliated Ka...

Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

The idea of Universal to Hammer is brilliant - if one had superhuman endurance you could go for the full circle test of strength Ex: Universal's 1931 Dracula to Hammer's 1958 Horror of Dracula and back to Universal's 1979 Dracula Impossible Big Boss Mode: Add Nosferatu 1922 to the front and Coppola'...

Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

Yes! If it only had about 30% more Lovecraft, it would have really been something... Will be checking out the Giant Monstercast shortly - loves me some giant monsters. The ONLY movie my mother ever took me to see in a theater was Godzilla vs. Hedorah (The Smog Monster) I was four or five years old a...

Re: The COMICS MONTHLY MONDAY THREAD

Oh, and while I am a fan of the character concept, I haven't followed Supes regularly at all since the 70s as a wee lad and only have a few dozen random 70s & 80s Superman titles myself - but I do have access to all the issues...elsewhere... So if you guys did some kind of 'Essential Reading' li...

Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

A bit of clarification on 'Event Horizon' - I would give it a solid '6' - which upon consulting IMDB, seems that I have joined the ranks of unwashed 'underrating' masses! I've only known maybe 3 people that have seen it - including the dude I went with. I tossed it out as a recommendation based on i...

Re: The Vault of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror Th

I will second the '5000 Foot/Historical View' of Horror for the Vault Shows - Carpenter was an excellent place to start - as I type this from my monster PC known as The Porkchop Express! http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/rdtx2001/IMG_0170.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h39/rdtx2001/IMG_01...
