Re: Whatcha Readin'? (Monthly Titles)

I think of everything I'm reading right now, the Avengers titles are really firing on all cylinders. Especially Avengers and New Avengers.

Spider-Man is kicking into high gear with Grim Hunt, but I worry about where it will wind up.

What Type of Prep Work Will You Do For a Film Viewing?

I ask this because I've been prepping a lot lately for upcoming films, especially ones I plan to write or podcast about. I'm just finishing the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender in anticipation of the movie. I read a slew of Jonah Hex leading up to the film. I spent time with menopausal wom...

Re: What Type of Prep Work Will You Do For a Film Viewing?

It really depends on the film. If I get really excited about a film I may check out the source material before I see the film. Some of my best experiences tend to be when I see a film cold turkey though. I try to avoid reading any reviews before seeing a film because usually they are too spoiler fi...

Re: What have you watched recently?

Robin Hood , really didn't seem like Robin Hood, did it? No, that's kinda what I was trying to say. How ever, the acting, cinematography, etc were all top notch. Had it been called "Longstride comes Home" or some worthy title, they would have been better off. But I enjoyed it, nonetheless...

[quote="Ken"]You Netflix guys have it good. You kids don't remember what it was like before. The things we had to do just to watch a movie.

That was hilarious.

I think for authenticity purposes they stayed away from the Blu-Ray section of the Blockbuster ;)

Re: What Type of Prep Work Will You Do For a Film Viewing?

I stop by the PO Box on the way home from work and pick up the DVD that Netflix sent me. :) By they way, I look forward to listening to the show. I haven't yet, but it's on the queue now. That's a lot of work. Why hasn't Netflix figured out a way to beam movies directly to our brains? Thanks for ch...

Re: What Type of Prep Work Will You Do For a Film Viewing?

I usually just watch the trailers. If I hear lots of bad buzz (like for Clash of the Titans) I'll skip it, but otherwise, not a lot of prep. The exception would be Watchmen, I kept the trade in the "reading room" and when I got to the end I'd start over again, and I listened to the LOD tr...

Re: Return of Bruce Wayne

I haven't read any of this series, and I think what has kept me at bay is seeing Bruce Wayne outside of his element. Is it jarring to see him as something other than Batman?

Movies. They infiltrated my life before comics, so they have had more opportunities to influence me.

Re: What have you watched recently?

A-Team: Excellent. Lots of fun Knight and Day: posted already Jonah Hex: Again lots of fun. Not exactly Jonah Hex, but still enjoyed it. Prince of Persia: Perfectly fine little action movie. Robin Hood: had issues with the title. Not particularly Robin hood, but Crowe, Durand and Grimes did great a...

Re: Avatar: The Last Airbender

I have my tickets for the midnight showing. My daughter and I have been watching the show and are almost to Book 2 right now. The thing I'm worried about, with the film, is that the tone will be too serious and you'll lose all of the fun that comes from Aang and Sokka simply being goofs. The trailer...

Episode 29: Knight and Day

Mike and Veer are reunited and it feels so good. This week we talk about Knight and Day starring the resplendently beautiful Cameron Diaz and the undeniably charismatic Tom Cruise. Our discussion covers Cruise's public image, what passes for a proper "puppet-master" villain, and the comedy...

Re: Favorite Bluray Movie?

I'm new to Blu-Ray, but so far Inglourious Basterds is my favorite Blu-Ray. And I have to wholeheartedly agree regarding Star Trek. It was the first one I bought and it holds a special place in my heart.

I loved this storyline. They did some wicked things with Kara. This I'm looking forward to.

Re: Everyone say HI!

I'm Mike Pampinella and I've been tooling around the comic community for a while now, so I know a good number of you. I'm one of the co-hosts of The Devil's Advocates Movie Review Podcast, I edit and write for the written review site of the same name, and I stalk Jonathan from afar. Very afar. I'm e...
