Mad Men - AMC

Postby JordanFromJersey » Fri Jul 02, 2010 12:30 pm

Who else is excited for the adventures of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce to continue soon?

I need to re-watch the finale before I start the new season I think, cause I've forgotten most of it other than the new company.

Super excited. Being in the summer, I feel like I always forget about it, but great show regardless.

This last episode probably has the most uncomfortable scene in the history of non-premium cable. :O

I also loved the businessmen meeting Joan and asking each other in Japanese how she doesn't fall over--something everyone thinks when they first see her I think. Well, first rational thought, anyway.

Drunk Draper is the best character on TV!

I'm a couple of episodes behind, but I can honestly say Betty Draper is the biggest bitch this season.

I guess she has always been a subpar mother, but she has really stepped it up this year.

One of my favorite parts:

DON: What did you put on this?
SALLY: Mrs. Butterworth.
DON: Let me see... This is rum. Learn to read labels.
SALLY: Is it bad?
DON: ...Actually, no, it isn't.

:D

Also--"My mother made that!"

And yes, let us pour a forty for Mrs. Blankenship. :(

Yeah, I'm not a real big alcohol consumer, but if I saw rum french toast, I'd at least take a bit, if not just to see how that'd taste.

You'd need a particularly sweet rum. I think Sailor Jerry's would work well.

Tell me if anyone else felt this: To me, this felt like a regular episode, when I think I was expecting more. I just didn't get exactly why this season is ending THERE, you know?

I didn't [think that it felt like a season finale] at first, but the more I think about it the more I see why they chose to end the season here.

As we know, Mad Men always jumps forward in time between seasons. By ending the season here, they get to skip a whole bunch of stuff we don't care about and get to the ramifications.

Granted, these are just guesses, but here are some of the things we can skip to get to the juicy stuff.

Joan's pregnancy and everything that entails.(we already know that this show doesn't do pregnancy makeup/suits well...)
Planning Don and Megan's Wedding.
The slow gathering of new clients.
The Inevitable dissolution of Henry and Betty's wedding.
etc.

There are a bunch of storylines that will benefit by the temporal shift, even if it doesn't seem as evident as it might have last year.
