Music Recommendation Thread

Postby Pamp » Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:18 pm

I am so out of the music scene right now. I know not what is popular or what the cool kids are listening to. Please recommend some artists and albums.

I enjoy the stylings of:

Beastie Boys
Run DMC
Prince
Linkin Park
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
Van Halen
Metallica

Have you heard of Them Crooked Vultures? It's made up of Dave Ghrol (Foo Fighters) on drums, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on bass, and the lead singer from Queens of the Stone Age on guitar and vocals. Very cool stuff!

House of Heroes just released a new album called "Suburba". It's awesome, but I still probably like their last album "The End is Not the End" a tad more. (progressive pop-rock stuff, very Beatles influenced)

Diamondsnake of course. (I already made a thread for them)

A friend of mine just recommended House of Heroes and Them Crooked Vultures to me the other day, I guess this confirms that I have to check them out. Mastadon might be up your alley. White Stripes are great hard rock.

Their older stuff is much more metalcore, their newer stuff is very modern prog metal(core). the new album was also released instrumentally which I LOVE.

Never heard of Them Crooked Vultures but I'll check them out.

I'm totally diggin Angels of the Airwaves. It has a former Blink 182 member in the band but it is nothing like Blink.

The Dead Weather- Jack White, the guitarist from Queens of the Stone Age, the singer from The Kills Allison Mosshart and the bass player from The Raconteurs. Crunchy bluesy hard rock. Really good stuff. The new album Sea of Cowards leans a little to the Led Zep side of things but their first album Horehound is also awesome.

Speaking of Jack White the new White Stripes live album is also killer.

If you dig female vocalist, Florence + the Machine and Bat for Lashes are awesome!
I also recommend a show on the Sundance Channel "Live from Abbey Road". There are some great artists on that show! We just got rid of cable and I miss that show already!
See you in another life, brother!

Chris
