Megos-1970s and the new Retro ones

Postby rrwerner » Thu Jul 01, 2010 5:38 pm

Anyone into Megos at all? These where my favorite toys as a kid in the 1970s and I've been lucky to hold onto most of them over the years (although the Wayne Foundation, the rarest of Mego toys, got destroyed).

Anyone buy the new retro ones based on the old Planet of the Apes and Star Trek molds? I've got most of them but have a couple more to track down. Any word of more coming soon?

DC are now trying their own line of Mego-like figures based on their old line but I'm finding that if they don't ping that nostalgic button of my youth, they just look bad. Megos probably look bad too but they remind me of my youth.

The price on the new ones is crazy IMO.

I had so many of them as a kid. I know I had Kirk and Spock from the Star trek line. Spider man ,The Thing,Conan,Batman and Robin. Plus at least a few others. But as a teenager I took them all out in the yard and blew them up with m-60s.

I had Spiderman, Batman & Robin, Superman, and Hulk as a kid. I may have had others but those for sure I had.

I get the retro appeal of Megos. I get the same feeling from the 3.75 inch vintage Star Wars figures. They look crummy by today's standards, but they open a window to the magic I felt when I had the things as a kid. Even today, I grab 'em when I find them at decent prices. :)

When it comes to new figures, my favorite style is close to mego. I'm a big fan of 6-inch clothed figures, like the Spiral Zone stuff done by Bandai back in the 80's. And I'm a HUGE fan of the 6-inch human figures being produced by threeA. Really some incredibly awesome detail in those things. :)
