Wonder Woman Redesign

Postby junbobkim » Thu Jul 08, 2010 3:55 am

With the recent buzz over DC's icon Wonder Woman redesign by JMS & Jim Lee, I decided to try my hand at it. Of course, mine does not appear "modern" per se, but instead more reminiscent of a go-go dancer.

What do you guys think? Worth inking and coloring?

I don't mean to be harsh if it comes out that way, just putting out my opinion. I LOVE the bracelets and how they come together. I'm also digging the top except the high neck line. The boots work but not with the skirt (I was never into the go-go dancer look). Maybe with pants?

Also do you do commissions?

Never mind I should have clicked on your link first before asking about commissions.

Also about you sketch, It has potential to be better and more Wonder Woman like than Jim Lee's. (just the opinion of a comic fan)

Bill, no offense taken in any way. I'm not completely satisfied with the design myself, but forced myself to put something down on paper. As I mentioned in my tweet, redesigning of an icon is infinitely more difficult than I'd ever imagined.

You never know. The design may yet change dramatically before I ink a version.

Hey dude, I don't have anything constructive to offer, as I have read little to no Wonder Woman excluding a few JLA books, that being said I just wanted to say well done for a great pic!!

I struggle to draw realistic stick figures and I am always impressed when people can draw so well.

The only feedback I can offer is the same as Bill, I think those bracelets look really cool!!

I really like the one on the left. It stays true to the character and still marks a change. Reminds me when they redesigned Thor, it said to me "This is Thor, but it's a new direction for Thor". Same thing here, the current one trashes what came before it. It's a cool design for Wonder Girl or Donna Troy, not Wonder Woman. Sorry ranting.

Back to the art. The little details is what seals the deal for me. The back of the belt and the bracelets (once again is awesome) along with the tabs on the belt and boots are just cool. To me the "belt" looks more like that's how the pants are secured. It is part of the pants and she just snaps them in and all done, love that idea. Now I like the boots and the tabs but I don't see the function of the tabs. Maybe if they went around the top and secured on the front. The tab does break up the solid boot, so maybe a white stripe down the front? I would make it thinner than what is traditionally used (wow, look at me trying to sound like an artist). When I look at it I see Wonder Woman, that is something they missed with her current redesign. This is better than the current one, you can quote me on that.

For the one on the right, it is close to the iconic design and has changes here and there. The bracers around the legs are cool, and they break up the thigh high boots which i normally don't like but it works here for some reason.

Over all I like it but not as much as the one on the left.

I prefer all of these to the new official version.

Wow, that is seriously cool looking. The bracelets forming the "W" is very, very cool. DC should've consulted with you dude.
"I believe in Rock And Roll!"

"The Gods you worship are steel,
At the altar of rock 'n' roll you kneel.
A slave who forever rocks,
Is chained in the devil's locks,
And slain by the bloody axe I wail!"
