One thing that's always rubbed me the wrong way about Dark Knight is the absolute hatred Bruce feels toward Clark. I can understand being disappointed in Clark, even angry, but Bruce outright despises Clark, almost as much as he hates the Joker. I've always wondered if this was Frank Miller's way of venting his hatred for the Superman character. Has Miller ever voiced disdain for Superman?

I think Bruce's feelings toward Clark are pretty evident in his monologue; he views Clark as a traitor in his "war", a sell-out and worst of all a former friend who has betrayed him. All of which would be perfect grounds for the way he feels.

On why it's taking so long to do Sin City 2: As I heard it, the main story that they wanted to adapt (along with a new story starring Nancy) was A Dame to Kill For, and they were dead-set on having Angelina Jolie as Ava Lord, but it was during her whole adopting third-world babies thing. Hopefully now that she seems to be back to doing movies, they'll move forward. The only problem I see is that they'll probably have to either move Shellie out or recast her because of Britney Murphy's demise.

Also--am I the only one who actually enjoyed The Spirit?

I can see the Castaway comparison--except that here, we're glad that Wilson's dead.

The witness testimonial with the woman is definitely talking about Batman. For one thing, Batman doesn't use guns or cut off people's fingers. It also has a lot of the ways that Miller writes Batman to be when confronting common crooks--coming in with a shriek that turns into a growl, making serious injuries, all with a scary laugh that the woman, knowing that the scale of power is back to her side by proxy, can't help but join in on. The SOBs are no where near as good, and it seems like non-crooks are more scared of the SOBs then they are of Batman.

I never noticed that "Gives good news" thing until now. That's pretty funny. :D

Didn't know that about the Ellison/Miller connection. Cool.

That is a great fake-out moment, but now that I think about it that is a bit of a flub--if the EMP's supposed to knock out all electronics, wouldn't it just make Bruce's heart monitor stop completely, not just go into a flat-line?

Love Carrie's little strut there too--it's all like, "That's right, I'm Robin. Haters gonna hate." :D

I found this scene with Superman recovering very interesting--with the way that he talks about all the life that was destroyed in the desert, the sunflower giving him the energy he needs to keep going, literally talking to the planet Earth, and the scene last issue where all these flowers and butterflies were just centered around him. Miller seems to be writing Clark here as being almost an avatar for the planet.

On why Batman on a black horse seems to fit so well--remember the hero that he saw in the last movie he saw with his parents--Zorro had a horse.

I don't think it's ever said in the DK-verse why Clark took out Ollie's arm--but when Ollie dies during the 90s, it's because of his hand being stuck inside of a bomb, and Clark is there and says the only way to stop the bomb and save Ollie's life is to cut it off with his heat vision, and Ollie decides that it's better to die. That might be where you got that from.

Great episode, guys. :D

i think doing a show covering a disasterous "dark knights strikes again" WOULD be interesting and entertaining. as much went RIGHT on DKR, that much went WRONG on DKSB.

Bruce does not hate Clark any more then Rush hates Obama. He just thinks Clark sucks at his job but his a tool that he can use too. By goading Clark in to "killing" him he was then allowed to continue his fight with little interference from the government and knows that Clark will allow him to continue that job since Clark no longer has to keep an eye on him for that government.

(wow, that's more thought then I think I've ever put in to this series)

Ollie DOES hate Clark though as well he should.

Got to notice Miller's misogyny thru the whole series tho. The men, aged tho they are, are pretty much still going strong but the women, Lana and Selina as prime examples, are overweight and not worth giving 2nd looks to.

And this is coming from a non-liberal dude.

Bottom-line on this book, I've read it dozens of times and not many collections get that treatment from me (Great Darkness Saga, Sandman, Marvels, Golden Age, Korvac Saga, Kraven's Last Hunt, Winter Soldier, Fables, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Camelot 3000, Watchmen, Dark Phoenix Saga, Longbow Hunters... to name just a few). OH, and I only read the sequel once... maybe I'll force feed myself on it again just to make sure it sucked that bad.
