I do not collect because of any kind of hope to make a profit. That being said, there are just some purchases that stand out as a bargain. I thought I had a good one last week when I found Daredevil #178 for a quarter. Normally at a yard sale, if there are comics, there are longboxes full of '80s Image titles and death of Superman era DC books. Not that there is anything wrong with those books, but they're nothing I want to purchase again. This week I approached two longboxes and immediately asked how much for the comics. I was told a dollar apiece. This didn't give me high hopes. But as I flipped thru the books I found a couple of gems that I couldn't pass up for a dollar. Ms. Marvel #1, her first appearance. Giant-Size Marvel Triple Action #1, from 1975. Not a special issue, but those giant-size issues don't show up in bargain bins very often. Then I pulled out a Wolverine #1, from the mini-series. Then I hit a batch of New Mutants vol. 1. To my delight, there they were, #87 and 98, Cable and Deadpool first appearances. And laying in the box sideways was Marvel Graphic Novel #5, X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills. I remember buying that new as a kid. And last, but not least, Iron Fist #14. It's no Action #1 or Amazing Fantasy #15, but I think I stole it for a dollar. Mind you, these were all easily in mint condition. Better condition than some new books I buy with staple creases and such. Thanks for letting me ramble, but I have no friends that give a crap about any of this stuff, and I felt the need to share.
