Say No to renumbering Action Comics

Postby Grekyll » Wed Jun 01, 2011 11:38 pm

Was wondering if anyone else has had this thought? They have rebooted and what not thru out the last 70 plus years without changing Action Comics numbering system, why now? Anyone else interested in getting something going about this or knows if it has already started? I want to get this started or join the cause.

Thanks for yuor time and any comments.

It doesn't bother me too much. They will either go back to it eventually, or when Action would have hit 1000, they'll put on the issue (whatever number it is) "The 1,000th issue of Action Comics!". Or something like that.

i say change is good! 10 years from now, it could and might be back. For me, the whole numbering thing is meh.. don't care, just want to read stories about characters I like.

This is all to line up the digital with the print. Picking up the digital issue of Action Comics #3 or #4 and going back to get 1-2 a big deal. Putting out Action Comics 904, people are intimidated.

I agree like mentioned above we'll see an Action Comics 1000, we'll see a Detective Comics 900, etc. It's good for a sales boost, they are usually anthology type issues so passer by's pick them up.

Could be, but I'd like to think that Hickman wouldn't do that unless it was on his terms in terms of the narrative.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm referring specifically to bringing the Torch back, not the renumbering. I don't really care either way about the renumbering.

I'm with you, Grekyll. I like the numbering the way it is now. I don't see why they need to go back to No. 1. When I began buying Action Comics, it was in the 400's......I went back and bought back issues. Doing this even helps the comic book stores. I feel that today's comic readers are spoiled.

I don't think there is any harm in tricking noobs into thinking they are getting in on something on the ground floor. And they're just going to change it back eventually anyway, right?

They should just leave it be.

My biggest issue with this title in particular is that Action Comics has such a history behind the title that I think its just downright wrong to rename it. I think its borderline offensive, but it is what it is I suppose.

I have never understood the outrage behind changing names or numbers on things, like it will truly lose its historical value if something like that occurs. People get outraged because they want to make a HBCU a part of a bigger collegiate system or because they are re-numbering Action Comics. Blah blah blah the history behind it, like for the simple fact that because they change the name or number on something that tomorrow you will wake up and completely forget the history behind it, its utter nonsense. Most times change whether you like it or not is for the better, or at the very least what the company terms is better.

At the end of the day, DC Comics can do what they damn well please and there is nothing you can do about it but sit on this board and complain because we all know the same fanboys who do this, aren't going to sacrifice messing up their complete collections by skipping the issue or dropping the book immediately. If you want your voice to be heard, if there is enough outrage, speak with your wallet plain and simple.

It's a new age and DC Comics is trying to embrace it, the comic book industry as a whole is in the toilet, they are doing what they deem is best for their business, so that 20 years from now, they can still have a company to produce Acton Comics.
