X-Men #1

Postby Johnny M » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:35 am

I thought it was pretty awesome. I'm psyched to read an X Book again.

Can someone get me caught up on whats been going down with Drac and Vampires? It seems like Wolvie and Cyclops were almost expecting them to show up...

Last I saw the vamps tried to get a toe hold on the U.K in Captain Britain and MI:13 but there was a mystical skull from Harker (I think it might have been his skull) that stopped them from setting foot on the British isles

I enjoyed X-Men #1, didn't grab me but I was not turned off by it. Everyone I talked to before it came out said "Vampires, really?" I say why not. Vampires are just super powered beings just like gods, mutants, and freaks of science. Yes it is an odd first story line, but would you really want another "everyone hates mutants and wants to beat the crap out of them today" story line?

There is history with vampires and X-Men, I believe Dracula tried to turn Storm back in the day. I don't remember the details but it sparked my memory when they wouldn't let Storm go. In an alternate reality Storm did turn and was never cured so she became the hero Bloodstorm.

I know there is a Dracula mini going on right now but I didn't pick it up. I'll look for it at my local shop today.

I enjoyed it, after Necrosha and Second coming I thought that they might give a couple of issues before moving on to the next big event. I am a little lost on the vampire characters though and I agree with Johnny, Cyclops and Wolverine were really vague about the big villian, but seemed to know who he was. And another vampire type character just one event removed from Necrosha, whats next? A Sentinel event after this one?

I totally loved this. There should have been somerthing from Marvel saying the the One Shot Death of Dracula leads right into X-Men 1. That being said I love seeing vampires that are not shiny, glittery and brooding... just evil bad asses the way God intended them to be.

Spoilers!!!

Basically in the Death of Dracula one shot, Dracula is killed at a centennial gathering of all the vamps. Apparently there are all types of vampires. This accounts for all the types that have been portrayed by Marvel and in other media. Nosferatus, Atlanteans, human looking ones, etc. They all look, act, have different powers, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

Every 100 years they gather for like a conference. Well one of Drac's sons decides to kill Drac and rally the other vamps to not live under the boot of Drac and society. So it's mass chaos. Surprisingly it was a well done issue.

As far as X-Men #1 goes. I liked it a lot more than I thought. My initial reaction was that it would be a train wreck. I still feel overall that another X book is unecessary. There are way too many X books now and it makes it harder for people to dive in. Although I will say that Second Coming aside, the books are pretty segregated. Uncanny is back to being the flagship in my opinion.
