DROID X

Postby Ken » Wed Jul 07, 2010 4:05 pm

So I was contemplating the HTC Incredible, but with the rumored iPhone for Verizon, I considered waiting.

Then VZW announces the DROID X, which looks awesome. Now I find out it comes July 15th and is the same price as the Incredible. I expected at least another $100 or so.

Plus, my NE2 with $100 credit comes on July 21st. I think I may have made my choice.

I got the Droid in March now they have Droid X and I heard there was a Droid 2 coming later this year. Now I have to wait two years to get a new phone.

I've only had the Droid a few months and I'm still trying figure out everything it can do. The new iphone does nothing for me.

If I was on Verizon I would probably get the Driod X. Although I hear that the HTC EVO is pretty close to the X. I'm eligible for the upgrade from Sprint but I'm going to wait it out a few more months.

Yeah I've heard about that. Brad has one and hasn't had any complaints. I'm also a little concerned about battery life. I've also learned my lesson from the Pre that about 6 months after launch they released an updated version that addressed some of the launch issues. I'm waiting to see if an update model for EVO irons things out.

If I do upgrade this will be the one I get. The big screen, the HDMI port; I usually don't use this terminology but that is one sexy piece of tech.

I used one today. My VZW had a demo there. It's very nice. With my NE2 coming up on the 21st, I hope I can get one, I'm sure demand will be high, especially considering it's the same price as the Incredible.

If I go to Sprint and get an EVO, am I going to be pissed that I don't have a Droid X? Or are they the same basically?

The reviews are starting to come in and this one is not real positive. Looking at the form factor, I don't like how the phone juts out on one end...

It's a 4.3 screen, of course it's big.

The bump out is to accommodate the camera. It's very thin otherwise, not like's a thick phone and then has the bump.

I've held it, and like it a lot.

Yeah I'm not sure what to make of the actual review. The complaints are mainly software. Which can be fixed. The other complaint on the camera I would guess will be addressed with a software update pretty quick. I don't plan on switching to Verizon anyway. I was curious about an Engadget review but haven't seen one yet.

Wow, I could barely make out the actual review within all their various adjectives.

I've read plenty of first look/hands on before this that like it. See the video above for one.

As for the camera, it is a mechanical shutter, unlike most phones. I don't know if that accounts for the slowness, or size (the bump) but there it is.

Yeah, Gawker tends to lend itself to the more sensational, which is why I was hoping Engadget or someone more coherent would put something out.

I've had slow camera response on the Pre from time to time as well. So I'm guessing that the issue is the user is pushing the "shutter button" and it takes a while for the camera to actual snap the pic. Again I think software/firmware update will fix this.
