Superman: The Movie is my favorite film, so I simply can't relate.
I'm the better looking half of the Podcast

I thought all the acting in Superman The Movie was spot on, especially Hackman.
I am the co-host of the TWO TRUE FREAKS PODCAST . I have been alternately described as a "hellish jumble of mismanaged parts" and a "humble God".

Hackman has his moments in the film ("Why is the number 200 so signifigant to both of us?") but overall I thought Hackman acted like Hackman. Personally I prefered him in Superman II he had a more Lex Luthor plot and had a little more bravado.

I like Quest For Peace mostly because I actually saw it in the theater! "DESTROY SUPERMAN!"

Scott and I have had our rounds with Superman The Movie. I think a lot of one's perception of the film has to do with how old one is.

I don't know how anyone can flat out hate Superman:The Movie. That movie wears it heart on its sleeve, and unashamedly so. It takes the best aspects of the Character from the Golden and Silver age and says, "Here, to you who love escapism, derring do, romance and Cinema, this is for you. If you don't dig it, fine, go watch China Town or Easy Rider."
"I believe in Rock And Roll!"

"The Gods you worship are steel,
At the altar of rock 'n' roll you kneel.
A slave who forever rocks,
Is chained in the devil's locks,
And slain by the bloody axe I wail!"

And to be perfectly honest Hackman in II acts a lot like I do in real life (just not plotting to take over the U.S.).

I can understand why a younger person in this day and age would not necessarily be blown away by STM - in the Post-Smallville/CGI blowout era, STM could seem to be almost 'quaint' in its innocent/wholesome delivery - not nearly enough grit or angst by today's standards.

Personally, I always liked II a wee bit better - just because ZOD was so fucking awesome and the whole 'First Movie Must Tell Origin Story Syndrome' (even though STM kinda invented it) - oddly enough, I think the Donner Cut of II would play better today than the original version.

I must say, that recently, my decidedly comic non-nerd wife has volunteered to go down the rabbit hole from square one and we watched STM, I have a much greater appreciation for it as an adult than I did as a kid in the theater - to say nothing of the sheer brilliance of the practical effects work that still holds up to this day.

I just wanted to say thank you for reminding me of the name of the movie Super Fuzz. I remember watching that when I was growing up in the early eighties. Within the last year I had been trying to remember the name of the movie, but when I described it to people(guy with super powers, but the color red depowers him and SF escaping the on a giant bubble he blew with bubble gum) people would look at me like I was crazy. At least more than normal.

Growing up I remembered my mother loved the film and had a major crush on Reeve.
