The only thing I remember about the TV series in question:

Freddy's Nightmares - Robert Englund is milking this teat to the bitter end.

Friday the 13th - Hmmm...good but totally unrelated concept...oh shit...that redhead is HAWT!

Hey! When's the next show rolling out?

Aren't we about due for some serious Plissken?

Ironically, on "Judgement Day" I watched the French zombie film Chris had mentioned awhile back, The Horde. It was a pretty good movie, kind of has the vibe of a Luc Besson film like Taken (okay, technically a Pierre Morel film, but Besson was the writer) in the way the action was handled. A simple revenge story that throws the hyper zombies in as plot device to derail the protaginasts. And the name that the old man has for the zombies is hilarious and wrong at the same time. Well worth a watch, and is streaming on Netflix.

Just listened to your the Thing episode and after you guys spoke about Alien I couldn't help but think back on when my dad sat me down and had me watch Alien and Aliens back-to-back when I was about 7. In the scene where Weaver and the little girl run into the egg room and are about to meet the queen my dad said

"You can look now, she's wakes up and realizes she fell asleep in church and it was all a dream."

I looked. Still haven't seen those films since that night.

Read "The Shining", it is far better than both adaptations. Grab the short story collections for the bathroom, they aren't all winners, but the variety makes them well worthwhile.

I second Chris' SK novel choices - Salem's Lot is actually scary.

For Zombie Apocalypse action - I wholeheartedly endorse 'Pontypool' - a smart little low budget Canadian flick with an oddball take on the whole ZA genre.

Starring the guy who played Hollis Mason, the old 'Original' Nite Owl in Watchmen.

The guy is fucking greatness - check it out and you will wonder why the fuck this guy hasn't been in a ton of movies.

As I said on the show, Christine is my favorite, but Pet Sematery is pretty unsettling too, especially if you have children. Four Past Midnight is a good collection of short stories as well as Skeleton Crew.

I thought From A Buick 8 was alright, but skippable. Same with Gerald's Game. The Tommyknockers was pretty good but I got to one part which turned me off and I never picked it back up, but that has to do with my personal neuroses rather than anything with the writing.

Now I'm just curious as to what exactly turned you off of it.

@Hero -- When the older brother sends his younger brother through the portal and he can't bring him back, and he imagines that the his brother is suffocating to death on an alien world. That really upset me (being a younger brother) and at that point I put the book down and eventually either sold or donated it.

I've actually read/watched very little post-apopalyptic stuff.
