"The Earth Destruction Directive-Where a robot can reprogram himself to grow giant...and it's not the strangest thing in your movie." :lol:

When I heard that line, I busted out laughing.
Really enjoyed the show. It sounds like I might have to track this down as it seemed like it would be a fun read.
Thanks for the show.

A question for listeners: Would you be interested in hearing episodes about the Super Sentai and/or Power Rangers?

I plan on doing some Ultraman at some point, as that is pretty strictly a daikaiju style show, but Super Sentai covers a lot of ground. Only part of it is meka versus daikaiju.

So please let me know if you would like to hear some of that on the show in the future!

Definitely! Like I discussed with you, my daughters are both into the many various iterations of the Power Rangers, so it would be kind of neat for me to let them listen to a podcast explaining their back stories.

Believe it or not that is the set up for the current series, Pirate Sentai Gokaiger. It is the Legendary War which took place when the Zanyack Empire first invaded the Earth. The powers of the previous Super Sentai are a very integral part of the Gokaiger story.

Here's a subbed version which explains what is going on!

That was awesome. And I thought the episode where it was just all the Red Sentais together was cool.

I don't like the way this guy approaches the game. You can move faster by actually moving through the Ring Fields and fighting the monsters as you go. You still need to move through exactly as many hexes to get to the Base HQ whether you wait for the monsters to come to you or not.

Still, this video does show you the insane monotony of this game. Its best played one or two stages a session, then save state and come back to it later.

Dude I have zero interests in video games of any kind. But it speaks to your talent as a podcaster that I found this episode just awesome and informative. This is what I like to call a "stealth" podcast. You think you're just having fun and what do you know? You learned something too. I didn't even understand the video game termonology you were using and I still had a blast. Great stuff!

Loved the last show. I never played that game though, however, I grew up playing both SNK King of the Monsters and Ultraman games on the SNES. The controls for ultraman were terrible and the gameplay was so convoluted I don't think we ever got past the first stage. King of the Monsters, however, was awesome. I loved the fact that SNK made a giant monster game with pro wrestling gameplay elements.

I LOVE King Of The Monsters. I definitely will be featuring that one on an upcoming episode.

The SNES Ultraman game is pretty awful. The American one is based on Ultraman: Towards the Future, and features monsters from that show such as Gudis. The Japanese version at least is based on the original series and features the original Ultra Monsters as enemies. Both versions are terrible and indicitive of the worst elements of Japanese "niche" games. It's like the "niche" clunkiness of Monster of Monsters taken to the ultimate level.

Glad you dug the show, Lomax, I think the next one is going to be even better!

speaking of kaiju and pro wrestling, i would love to see a future episode on the hilarious kaiju big battel.

Well folks, turns out that I wasn't just being an idiot -- the IDW website has no information whatsoever about the upcoming new Godzilla #1 they are releasing this Wednesday, May 23. Here is the solicit.

http://media.ideaanddesignworks.com/idw ... 1-CvrA.jpg
Godzilla #1
Release: May, 2012
Writer: Duane Swierczynski
Artist: Simon Gane
Godzilla is back... in an all-new ongoing series! Duane Swierczynski and Simon Gane launch this ultimate action-movie blockbuster, ushering in a new era of monster battles. Ex-special forces tough-guy Boxer is a man with a grudge and vows to end the terror of Godzilla, no matter what. He assembles a top notch team to take down monster-sized threats... at $7 billion a bounty. What starts as a vendetta could become a lucrative business for Boxer... if he can live past day one!

* Ryan Kelly movie-tribute cover!
* Art Adams gatefold cover!

Note also that the book was originally solicited as being packed with a random Art Adams monster trading card, but indications are that this is no longer the case due to a disagreement between IDW and Toho.

Also, the trade paperback for Gangsters and Goliaths is now available! You can find information at this link:

have any of you guys heard of a japanese film called the calamari wrestler. It's like the film rocky.... if rocky was magically cursed into becoming a giant squid. I'm really amazed at the amount of crossover between kaiju and pro wrestling out there.

just found a tokusatsu series from the 70's called pro wrestling star azteckaiser. It reminds me of those old el santo movies from the 60's and 70's in which our main hero fights the forces of evil with the power of pro wrestling. similar concept to the manga and anime Tiger Mask (big fan of the real life wrestlers who portrayed Tiger Mask in New Japan as well). created by manga and anime legend Go Nagai (creator of Mazinger Z, Devilman, and the soft core porn heroine Kekko Kamen). Here's terrible and orignal names for his characters in this series, though. Satan Demon, Red Bloody Hell, Bloody Hornet? not very subtle Mr. Nagai.

The depth and breadth of bizarre, unusual, one-off tokusatsu's in the 70s and 80s is astounding.
