Well, I guess the nail has been placed in the coffin, the coffin set on fire, the ashes placed in an underground storage container, and the container buried in pile of goat feces. You both pretty much gave excellent reasons for your hatred of the movie, and I can't say that I disagree with any of them. The movie was rather slow and did have to spell out plot elements to the viewers as if we were to uninformed to understand them. One of the things I think your commentary cemented in my mind was that the film was trying to be an allegory for the 9/11 attacks and how President Bush inacted contreversial measures (the PATRIOT act) in order to try and stop a crazed terrorist. Morgan Freeman making the whole "god machine" and then decrying its use as giving Batman too much power is akin to the Senate and House overwhelmingly (98-1 and 357-66 respectively) voting for the act and later complaining about it being "a shredding of the Constitution". But all that aside, you two have given me a new perspective on the film, and it makes me really concerned about the future of the DC superhero films, especially when Nolan is involved in the next Batman AND Superman films.
