Oh, I didn't mind it in the theater either - the rest of the extra scene is great. The dialogue explains a lot of Han's later behavior.

Just this wee bit here:

Maybe Lucas will re-tweak the SE add ons with 21st Century computing power - then it might be fine n dandy.

I know the extra scenes with Biggs and whatnot are s'posed to be added - I loved the extra Jedi scene of Luke making a new lightsaber.

I am going right now to get the 80s Japanese LaserDisc versions - I had 'em but HDD crash years ago lost 'em for me.

Truth be told, if I watch any OT Star Wars these days it's the FanFilm Docutainmentary MashUps:

Star Wars Begins or Deleted Magic or Building Empires or Return to Jedi.

If you haven't seen those, find them and dl'd them immediately. You will be sucked in instantly.

They are truly 'Enhanced Viewing' and better than any 'Specially Fucked With' editions that Lucasfilm has done.

Can anyone recommend any Bobba Fett novels or comics that don't require any viewing of the films?

Are you certain about the Cloud City music being altered? I may be wrong (and probably am), but I thought that sequence plays just as it "should," according to the 1997 re-release of the score. The walls and windows thing I had never noticed -- I'll have to look for that.

The big flaw of ESB SE in my book is the pointless addition of Vader going back to the Executor, "accomplished" with footage from ROTJ, and with music that completely interrupts Williams' awesome "Hyperspace Chase" cue. Ugh! It's probably too much to hope that it will at least be a little more seamless in the Blu-ray set.

And, I don't care what Lucasfilm says, that magnificent trumpet fanfare as the X-Wings dive toward the Death Star in Ep IV *has* been dialed down to the point of non-existence in the audio mix. Criminal.

But, yes, I'm shelling out the money for the Blu-ray. I want those 40 hours of extras, dabanabit. Did you see that "SFX," the 1980 special on ESB, will be included? Man, I can remember counting down the days til I could watch that thing on CBS, and then drawing pictures from it on my loose leaf notebook paper for weeks afterward. Plus, the 90 minute documentary on parodies should be fun, along with whatever deleted scenes they're going to throw us from the original trilogy.

But after the Blu-ray, that's it. I swear. No mas. (Go ahead and laugh...!)

Good, Stephen Colbert likes Bobba Fett so I've got to read something with him in it and I've never seen these movies.

Bibliomike, you misunderstand me, sir. Get out your TESB SE DVD, go to the scene where Luke is putting Dagobah in his rear view mirror. The scene changes to a brand new sequence of a Twin Pod Cloud Car whipping about Cloud City. The underscore for this new scene is stolen from a few minutes into the film's future. It is the EXACT SAME music that follows Han's "I'm sorry, too" after their betrayal by Lando as Luke appraches the system! And I can't believe I forgot about the interruption of the Hyperspace scene. I HATE THAT! You're so right, it completely destroys the flow of the scene.

Scott, the way that the Bespin bit in the Empire SE bugs you is the same way the little changes in Jedi bug me. I have said it before and I will certainly say it again, Jedi is my favorite and I have seen it more than any of the others. So little things bother me about that in addition to the big things (Jedi Rocks, Ewok Song). The bit with the Bantha herd when they are flying to the Sarlacc is so lame. What's the point? It's like you say on SWMM, what's with the bantha obsession? Same goes for the Sarlacc itself, and the bit at the end with Wedge.

Do these scenes add anything to the narraitve? Do they "fix" anything? No, they were done because they could be done -- like the windows in Cloud City -- and serve as a distraction moreso than anything else.

Same with Boba Fett flirting with the dancers. Total fanservice crap.

The only inserted shots which I don't mind in Jedi -- and its mostly for the novelty value, mind you -- are the new shots with Oola in the Rancor pit. The novelty is that Femi Taylor actually shot the footage in 1997 and looked pretty much identical to how she looked in 1982, so I don't mind them because I think of that and smile because that is good trivia.

I won't be buying the Blu-Rays since I don't have a Blu-Ray player, and as far as the 3-D re-releases, the jury is still out. I want to go see the OT since I have never seen any of them on the big screen but I'll just get mad when they are the SEs AND I have to pay 150% of a regular ticket to see it (since I don't think they will be presented in 2-D format).

Hey guys, listening to episode 187 (SWMM #30) right now, and Scott, I agree with you about Owen Lars. There's a character who is ripe for more development and did a yeoman's job of protecting Luke and keeping his family safe in the time between the birth of the Empire and his death. This kind of story doesn't seem like the kind of story which Lucas is interested in telling but this is the sort of thing which the EU is designed for. Good observation.

Okay, watched SW intently for the first time in awhile - I've had it playing in the background a million times or just point n clicked to certain scenes often enough, but hadn't sat with it without distraction since the Prequels came out on BluRay -

It's a totally different experience having now seen the Prequels a few dozen times - the Obi Wan/Vader duel has infinitely more depth and weight - and Sir Alec's humor stands out much farther.
Interesting to see Vader's original place in the hierarchy as well - Tarkin giving the orders and the rest of the Management Team fucking with him about the Force n shit - next time out, everyone is scared shitless of him from Jumpstreet. Big difference viewed back to back - but hardly noticeable with 3 years between movies.

I will echo the sentiments of Scott on the role of Owen Lars - he got fucked in the deal and he knows it - and you can see it in his eyes at the dinner table scene - can't help but feel for the guy big time.

Are there any pics of 'naked' Jawas? HD allows for the observation that they are hairy little fuckers - like mini gorilla suits. I hadn't noticed that before.

Is Beru's dialogue dubbed or was I hallucinating?

I had the terrifying thought during the final duel - 'Wow, the dialogue almost works 100% for the backstory that was to come...I wonder if Lucas ever thought about remaking the OT to 'fit' better...'

Totally unrelated crosstalk:
Hey LJacone - gone thru all eps of EDD to date - nice!

Will the oddball shit like Frankenstein Conquers the World or War of the Gargantuas be touched on? I've always loved those as much as the standard Giant Monster fare - the fucking severed hand bit in FCTW freaked my shit when I was 10!

Also a HUGE Gamera fan as a wee lad - I've wanted a fucking minisub and giant frozen turtle for 30+ years!!

Totally busting out the old Gojira shit today - dunno how you are set for intarweb dl'd or watching movies on PC - but if you're able, I can point you in the direction of all three eras of Godzilla in widescreen 720p from the Nihon Eiga Senmon Channel in Japan. Mind you, it's about 80GB of shit but it's as good as it gets and it's all 100% Japanese versions.

On the vid: Return of Gojira 1984 - EDD in the house!
On the cbr: DC Comics Presents 1-20 JLGarcia Lopez = totally fucking underrated.
