So, the local is showing 'The Thing' as a double feature in their Graveyard Shift series. They're showing Carpenter's film at 9pm and then the remake/prequel at 12am. I would never have been interested in this before but due to TVoSMHToT, I think I am in!
With the prior conversation being about Carpenter's The Thing and you mentioning of the dog, I thought that post was going to go a whole other direction.

Of course it won't, but I have a morbid curiosity about it, plus I LOVE the chick that's in it.

If they haven't seen it, the Blu-Ray should terrify them with the look of the effects. The creature in the kennel and the one Wilford Brimley is dissecting have a visceral sheen that makes them even more realistic and horrifying.
Joe -- The commentary with Carpenter and Russell is great as well, but I don't know if that was lifted from the DVD release -- Anthrax

Oh HELL yes! It's great to be getting back into the swing of things and see this little whore and gore filled extravaganza!
This one is near and dear to my cold black heart - taken from the novel Vampire$ - written by a guy named John Steakley (for real) who was live and local here in TX and whose dad had owned one of the most gigantic Chevy dealerships during my youth - the kind where their commercials are played every 3 minutes on local air.
The movie is of course, kickass - and the book is stellar if you are familiar with Dallas to any degree - it's quite a bit different - sort of like the adaptation of 'Who Goes There?' in reverse. There is an audiobook version of the Steakley novel available on the intarwebs if you are into that sort of thing.
Speaking of Things - there is a fucking brilliant audiobook of the original Campbell novella on iTunes (I knuckled under and gave Apple my nine bucks) that is a sweet piece of sonic paranoia - JC was amazingly faithful to it and very much improved some of the slower bits - it makes for a nice contrast/compare.
My complaint is that I wanted more Fat Baldwin(tm).
And Shreyl Lee...in my bed.

And it looks like my Netflix queue just got one movie bigger. Thanks for the episode folks, I'm looking forward to what you have in store of Halloween.
Joe -- Either another set of stories or perhaps the Vault's take on Carpenter's Halloween -- Anthrax
