Hey, guys. I haven't posted much, but am a long time listener.
I was just looking at the Collected Editions website and they found an Amazon listing for.....
Showcase Presents The All Star Squadron Vol 1, set to be released at the end of April 2012!!!
With the Showcase All Star Vol. 1 that is coming out soon, I had hoped that this was the direction they were heading in. I guess they finally realized that there is a market for it.
Anyways, just figured I'd pass this news on in case you haven't seen it.

Amazon also still lists the second Showcase volume of Jonah Hex as being available to buy. They are notorious for listing things that don't actually exist.

That one, and others like the great disaster volume, was cancelled due to the royalty structure pre and post Jeanette Kahn. In order to make the books profitable, they had to get those creators that were involved in the books that were published after the royalty changes to agree to a lower payment akin to the previous contracts. They didn't check with some of those creators before announcing the books. Needless to say, some of them didn't agree to that. That's why you have a number of non-Jonah Hex stories at the end of the first volume to fill out the book. Some of them, like Suicide Squad and the Secret Society of Super Villains, were changed to higher priced deluxe reprints.
That being said, I think they have learned their lessons on that front. Not having many of the All Star Squadron issues(at least in hard copy form), it'd be nice to get it in a convenient package. The Ordway art would be really nice in black and white.

As someone who learned to drive on the Long Island Expressway, where you need to drive like a maniac in order to live, that 10 minutes of Georgia drivers made me laugh hysterically b/c I live in Virginia and ... oh shit, you guys are so right.

Quickly, regarding licensed comics: IDW has announced that they are going to begin publishing a Transformers book written by Simon Furman which picks up the original numbering and continuity at #81. So if you like the classic Marvel Transformers then this one is for you!

Hey guys I just listened to the latest episode of Tales. Great episode with a lot of great discussion. I especially enjoyed Luke's great letter. All 3 of you guys (Mike, Scott, and Luke) love COIE. I do NOT. So I thought I would come on here to throw out a different opinion. I like almost all of what came OUT of COIE but I hate that steaming pile. I actually enjoy Infinite Crisis quite a bit actually but I hate almost ALL of what came of it.

Scott said he didn't like that IC pissed on COIE. That's the main reason I like IC not for story (even though I do like that) and not for art (even though I loooooove that) but I like it because it pissed on that overhyped piece of shit.

If I was on CMM COIE would be #1 on my comics I thought I would like but really sucked. However, I do understand what people like about it and I respect that people like it but I just don't get it. In fact I hate it.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen.

Fan Expo '11: "“Should we tease?” asked O.M.A.C.writer and DC co-publisher DiDio. The rest agreed, and James Robinson confirmed that he is working on a new Justice Society project with artist Nicola Scott, and that the parallel world Earth 2 will make a return. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause." Parallel world? Already?

Thoughts? Scott? Michael?

I'm going to re-read COIE before I make a post about my problems with it. To be fair I like 45% of it but 55% I think is shit mostly because it's over-hyped. But I feel really guilty for making that post not because I feel like I took a shit on your cereal and that's just not fair. I want to be fair. So I'm re-reading it and I'll write a little essay and post it up here.

Jesus Christ all I seem to do is shit on your cereal lately but here's my opinion: You guys kept saying Superman is a big character. I hate to say it, he's not anymore. As far as the general public goes he's gone, he's frankly C-List now. Hell, if you go by comic sales he's C-List in the comics now too. And he's like that because he's not a relevant character anymore. He belongs in the 1930's. I would pay good damn money for an ongoing Superman book where he's in the 30's and is just totally Shuster because he doesn't work in a contemporary setting, well he doesn't work monetarily. I'll admit I am biased because I don't like the character but I don't think he's successful because... he doesn't work 2000-11 not in a period piece. I'm saying period piece because kids will say "Superman YAWN" but in a 30's setting "Superman YA- wait he's fighting Nazis like Indiana Jones!" I think the best writer for Superman now is Morrison (and I'm not saying that just to bother you I legitamitely like the man's writing... a lot) because he's edgy and kids these days love edgy.

Well Morrison has said he was asked to write Superman...in March.

That adds so much more to the theory that Dido and co. did the whole reboot at the last minute given it takes months to put comics together.

That does not bode well for DC's plans.

Oooh boy I'm not touching this conversation with a 10 foot pole.

While I still think that Superman is relevant today, I have to admit a period Superman movie would really be something special. Maybe not fighting the Nazis, but a Superman film set during the Depression would be unlike anything the superhero genre has ever produced, I think. Especially if you embrace Superman's early, "fighting for the little guy" mentality.

I do want to say that the animated Superman gif Scott posted is pretty awesome.

Those early Action Comics where Superman destroys tenements so the government will build new ones and is essentially a socialist kick so much ass. The Fleisher cartoons in live action would be fan-frickin-tastic!
