Finally saw the movie today. Definitely worth the extra week's wait which I ended up with. Just fantastic all around.
Shellhead, gotta love him. Cap was great (dug the new uniform). Thor was spot on like in his solo movie.
Mark Ruffalo definitely played a different Bruce Banner. Not sure how I feel about it because I really liked the take which Ed Norton brought to the table. That said, his Hulk is much more of a Monster Hero character than a Monster and that made all the difference in this movie. As much as I love the Hulk as a Monster (natch), in a team setting such as on the Avengers or (more commonly) the Defenders, he has to be a Monster Hero character, and that was wonderfully realized.
I also very much liked how the Black Widow was handled. Whedon did a good job of swerving the audience into thinking that she was a standard Hollywood female character in her big talky scene, only to turn the tables on both her on-screen partner and the audience at the same time. Wish she had used her Widow's Bite a little more.
That brings me to an odd piece of trivia -- Hasbro has not made a Widow's Bite roleplay toy. You can get Iron Man's repulsors (spring loaded launchers), Cap's shield (which doubles as a Frisbee which is F'N GENIUS), Thor's hammer, Hulk's fists, and Hawkeye's bow, but not a Widow's Bite. Seriously, Hasbro, throw a bone to the fangirls and little sisters of fanboys of the world, alright?
Pretty sure I was the only guy in the theater who understood the teaser.
Joss Whedon finally has made something which I enjoyed.
