Ironically in a Star Trek sense, but a corollary term to "ship" is "ship to ship combat," where fans of two different relationships (usually legs of a love triangle) flame one another over who is better. :)

Ummmm, Randy Gardner on the Show, and you guys are discussing Wesley's Love Life?

Enjoyed this one a lot, and Randy certainly lived up (or is that down?) to his reputation! One thing I wondered when you mentioned on the TNG episode that anyone who doesn't normally listen to the TOS one should make sure and listen to this month's - are there many folks out there who listen to the one and not the other?

Re "Friday's Child", it's definitely one of the duller original series episodes, and with the wimpiest Klingon we ever see too. One thing I do like about it is they give McCoy plenty of good stuff, which I always enjoy. Dee Kelley was such a fantastic (and underrated) actor. Also, I like it when Scotty gets to take charge of the bridge - don't you think he would have been a fantastic captain in his own right?

Other fun stuff to note about this one - it's one of the earliest Chekov episodes, and he's still wearing his appalling Monkees wig, which is good for a laugh. And regarding the ongoing debate about just how much TOS used the 7 "classic" crew members, it's interesting to note that this is the first episode where all 7 of them appear in the same scene together (taking the episodes in production order, anyway).

Looking forward to when you guys get to doing "Debt of Honor", as you have previously discussed. Love that book!

Just listened to 1701-D episode.

A few thoughts:
- I liked both episodes, but I actually liked Contagion better. For some reason it really felt like an Original Series episode to me.
- There were a couple parts where Picard was like 'Theories?' or 'Analysis?'. And then La Forge or Data would be like 'I can only guess...' lol.
- I think Chris was looking for Norton or McAfee in regard to anti virus software.
- Why did Picard send Worf back with Data at the end? Why didn't Worf volunteer to stay and key the self-destruction program?
- I just thought Contagion had a more cinematic feel to me, with the Romulans and Picard beaming onto their ship, the close escape, etc.

Not a regular STMM listener just listen to the show to see who the guest was. I am glad I did it had me laughing my ass off. The after credits stuff really had me. More shows about the younger days of TTF is a must. Bonus points if you can get Randy on.

I know you guys did a combined Wrath of Khan/Search For Spock memories show awhile back, but i'm hopeful for a 30th anniversary deluxe Wrath of Khan show.

one thing that I hope you guys would get into would be the deleted scens, especially the Khan's baby stuff that i don't think was ever brought up. I had read rumors about that scene for years, but this article is proof that it happened

Looks like The Freaks have a competing Star Trek :TOS podcast which is everything STMM is not.......BORING.

It is being done by A. Roddenberry productions, so it is very polished but the two host have no chemistry with each other. They follow a set format so they discuss certain aspects of each episode during certain times and are able to keep the show to around the same length.

All this stifles the creativity out of each episode.... the exact opposite of STMM.

Thanks again guys for STMM.

P.S.
Would love to hear more episodes with "Uncle Randy"

There is nothing inherently wrong with having a formula schedule set in place to keep your broadcast regular. I know it's something the little outfit I am involved with constantly struggles with as all over the place conversations can lead nowhere or something interesting but a more rigid formula helps keep the show moving towards a set goal of accomplishments but can become dull. I struggle because something someone says leads me to a thought that goes to this other thought that then winds up way out there then back to the original thread of conversation.

Of course there are podcasts I can't listen to because the people talking are so monotone as if showing any interest in what they are talking about might kill them. STMM might meander sometimes(ok a lot) but its never monotone which is why I listen..

Seeing as how the nature of podcasts is pretty much "non profit labor of love", Scott and I have decided to try to have the best of both worlds as far as structure goes. We definitely do have a rough format for our ST shows, (opening- show tv ad - synopsis - discussion - comic synopsis and discussion) but we don't always follow it if the show wants to go in another direction. We don't have to be consistent to keep the ratings coming in, we only have to make sure that Scott and I and the listeners are entertained.
I think a lot of times people try to build their podcasts (especially "official" or "authoritative" ones) on the radio and TV model and it comes off boring because podcasts are a different beast. They're so new that my spell check underlines "podcast" every time I type it.
What's the name of that Roddenberry Podcast, I would be curious to check it out. I always like to see what the "competition" is up to, although I'm not really sure what there is to compete for.

Haven't had a chance to listen to it, but they just started, so I think some slack can be given with the lack of chemistry department as "finding their way" can be the actual reason as opposed to trying to sound too polished and rushed.

The reason why STMM sounds smoother despite the illusion of a free format is because, well the first episode was what, the 10th podcast Scott & Chris had done under the Two True Freaks banner? Let alone the fact that the two are life long friends, whom were able to get their friendly banter back as if the years without contact had never happened. Listen to those earlier episodes though, and it will seem rather rough around the edges.

Hell, listen to some recent episodes of Hey Kids! Comics! and Andrew is talking about how bad the first batch of episodes were that are going up on the TTF feed now when it comes to him and Micheal's banter and whatnot. And that's a father talking to his teenaged son!

Listened to an episode, and it's not bad....it's just not AWESOME like Two True Freaks! The hosts actually seem to have a fair amount of chemistry and good radio voices, it's the canned music and over-use of computer-voice that annoy me.
