Freakish Requests...Part 2!

As the original thread is quite buried by now, it's time for a new one!

Now a Two True Freaks special episode I'd like to hear some day would be the Freaks (and maybe a guest or two) talking about . It's one of my favorite comedies from 80's with a funny cast. I'm not sure if it'd be able to carry a whole show by itself, so maybe it could be part of a double feature of some kind. Who knows?

Any more 'Freakish Requests' out there among the fandom?

I've never seen Clue, all I remember is it got horrible reviews and HBO just said fuck it and would run all the alternate ends during showings of it. I do remember Outland being pretty good, I can't remember if I caught it in the movies or on HBO.

The version of Clue which HBO would show was the home video version, which did all three endings with some connection interstitials.

Well, I feel silly now. So let's try throwing out another idea...

How about a show about Escape from New York? Or is this too out of genre for you Freaks?

And speaking about out of genre films, I recall some discussion/talk about The Godfather during the recent film commentaries. Could there be a one-off show about the movie or is there not really a lot you'd have say about it or its sequels?

I know you guys did an ep for ST:TMP (natch!), and Star Wars, plus one for WoK and Search For Spock... have you guys done one for Empire? And when you get to doing eps for STV and ROTJ (AKA The Greatest... yadda yadda yadda), I want in!

We just covered issue #20 in our latest STMM (which has already been recorded and will be out on the second Monday of this month!). Star Trek IV takes place between issues 36 and 37. That means that if we stick with an issue per month, we won't reach ST IV until around June or July NEXT YEAR!! I think that's too long (particularly since some of the upcoming stories -- to my recollection -- kinda suck). I'm thinking we need to double or triple up on our comics coverage to facilitate getting to the films faster.

Here's an idea...

If we started covering 3 issues per show, it would shake out something like this --

21 thru 23 -- March

24 thru 26 -- April

27 thru 29 -- May

30 thru 32 -- June

33 -- July

34 thru 36 -- August

Star Trek IV -- September (and just in time for our THIRD anniversary!!)

Thoughts? Keep in mind that this could very easily translate into even longer episodes of STMM.

Scot, please remember that I am only now working through back episodes (almost said "back issues" there) of STMM and SWMM, and that my access to DL your show is spotty here at work. And I am not great at remembering to DL them at the house and then put them on a flash drive. So while I have heard the STTMP ep (duh) and the Star Wars one, I only have the STII/III ep queued up and have not been able to find the Empire ep(s). So please blame that on me not paying attention/not following as closely rather than your show not being memorable.

Isn't Bailey on enough podcasts already? If he is willing to, ahem, SPREAD THE WEALTH OUT A LITTLE, we could both do ROTJ, at least the movie... I have not read the comics, unfortunately.

Regarding doing three comics an episode, I don't have a problem with that, but it does throw off the balance of each of you talking about one comic. Whether that matters or not I don't know.

Let me say this about The Godfather Part III: There are two films of which I am aware which feature someone being murdered by cannoli: The Godfather Part III and Death Wish V. I would much rather watch Death Wish V than The Godfather Part III.

Part III is not nearly as bad as some folks would have you believe, but at the same time it is not in the same echelon as it's predecessors in pretty much any category you want to choose.

To me it's like the prequel trilogy: made long after the original films for dubious reasons, they suffer from the comparison even though they have a good amount of merit on their own right. Part III is a good mafia movie, but it pales next to the first two, much like I feel that TPM, AotC, and ROTS are good space opera, but not in the same ballpark as Wars, Empire, and Jedi.

You know, Fanboyimus keeps bringing it up, Hero and I brought it up, maybe we could do a big roundtable on Transformers The Movie. Scott and Chris could watch it for the first time and Hero and I could explain who everyone is to you two.
