Listener Poll - We want your input! (See Inside For Details)

Postby NewFun#6 » Mon May 02, 2011 6:27 pm

Dear Listeners,

As some of you may remember, waaaaaay back last JULY (My God, has it really been that long ago already?) I was forced, by life circumstances, to take a hiatus from podcasting. While the transition didn't prove to be quite so noticeable or disruptive as feared, some of you have no doubt realized that some things were lost along the way. Our output suffered. Or, rather, my personal output suffered. Despite my best efforts, "Back To The Bins!" and "Death and the Acrid Smell of Gunsmoke: The Jonah Hex Podcast" just kinda fell to the wayside. I never meant for it to happen, but it did nonetheless.

Well, now that things are finally stabilizing somewhat in my personal and professional lives, I feel it's time to try to get back to some semblance of normality with my podcasting life. However, the sad reality is that things can NEVER go back 100% to the way they were back when we were putting out umpteen podcasts a week. Not and remain employed and wedded, anyhow. So, it's time for some tough decisions.

What I'm asking for is YOUR input. You, the listeners, ultimately determine what we produce and how we produce it. I'd like to know which shows that we used to produce do you miss most? What frequency would you like to have us produce those shows if we can resurrect them? What shows could easily remain "dead" and you couldn't care less?

For me, I LOVED doing the Jonah Hex podcast, but that show is SERIOUSLY time-intensive. So it comes down to one of two decisions (if I'm to bring it back at all) -- either scale back on the audio quality as far as the audio-book style bells and whistles and do more of a straight up review show (of which there are already like a billion of) or continue to do what I've been doing with that show, only far less frequently.

And then there's Back To The Bins! I love that show, too, but feel it IS the most easily "let go" since the basic format could be (and somewhat has been) folded into others shows that we do. So... bring it back? If so, how often and in what format? Would you dig "Back To The Bins!" as a solo show? Would you dig BTTB if it became a little more "focused" from time to time on large runs or whole series, like say ROM The Spaceknight, for example? Or is the total randomness of topics the appeal for you?

Speaking of solo shows, I would still like to do a solo project. I had planned to have one up and running by now, but again life just kinda got in the way. However, it's still on my agenda and I'd love to know what YOU, the listeners, would like to hear me blab about in a solo project. I'd love to do something with some Disney in it, but wonder if anyone would actually care to hear it.

Lastly, I know that ultimately "Tales of the JSA" is the show everyone seems to miss most. Hell, it's the show I miss most. I'm gonna be honest... I dunno what's up with the show. You may've heard the new "promo" for the return of the show that I've been plugging into recent TTF episodes. Well, I recorded that when it was our full intention to get the show up and running again. However, due to new circumstances, I just don't know. It's frustrating. I'll try to keep you informed. At the moment, sadly, the show remains on indefinite hiatus.

Feel free to chime in, listeners. I'm dying to get some input here.

Thanks for listening!

I have to say that I really do miss Bins, and I think the reason I love it is the randomnness of the format. Not that I don't mind "themed" episodes now and again but I feel that's a lot of what Mike does on Views .... Have you considered adding it to Comics Monthly Monday in some respect (although I think that would push that show to four hours) or maybe just making it bi-weekly or monthly?

Sorry, I'm absolutely no help here.

Personally I would give up any show to have Back to the Bins back it truly is my favorite podcast. But if it came back I wouldn't want it to be a solo act, having it remain two people would be a big plus, and I love the random nature. Speaking of which would it be out of line for me to record a 30 minute or so episode of Back to the Bins on my own, and send it into you guys?

Well you take those shows and make them monthly like you do with your normal shows.
Have Jonah Hex be the first fri. JSA the second fri. BttB the third fri. And the rest of the Fridays filled with other things. May be a extra episode of the most popular of the 3.The schedule can be a mirror to your other shows.

Folding BttB into CMM may sound cool now but would think over time it would start to lose that uniqueness that it has developed over time. I say if it can't be on it own drop it.

In the end if they start to became to much like work send them to the dust bin of history. I want you guys to have fun more than getting a podcast out.

My back issues of 'All-Star Squadron' have been waiting for the return of 'Tales of the JSA'. It's my favorite show, save for 'Star Trek Monthly Mondays'.

Back to the Bins. One of my favorites. Liked the randomness.

Comic book podcast? Okay...
Green Lantern comic book podcast? Better...
Green Lantern comic book podcast about the 1990's comic run with an emphasis on Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner? Now that's finding your niche!

From my "press release" on FaceBook a few minutes ago -- It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I must announce my departure from the "Tales of the Justice Society of America" Podcast. I know this will come as a shock and disappointment to some and for that I most sincerely apologize. The show never really recovered, IMO, from my podcasting hiatus of a while ago and I feel as though I've let you, the faithful listeners, down. It was a helluva good run, though, and I'm very proud of it. Now it's time for me to move on to other projects. Best wishes in his other endeavors to Michael Bailey whom I hope to continue to work with on "Comics Monthly Monday".

That said, I really like Mad Nei's idea of a second set of monthly rotating shows. In fact, I had been thinking just the same thing not long ago, but wasn't really sure I wanted to go that direction or not. It's not a bad idea at all, though. I'm thinking Jonah Hex and BTTB, for sure. I still want to do a solo project. 4th week? Who knows? Maybe something Superman related...

Speaking of BTTB, damn I don't want to let that show go. But I'm just not sure how to make it fly again. It would be sooo much easier to just do it myself since the real problem here is my schedule. It simply isn't conducive at this point to working with a co-host on a regular basis, but you all pretty clearly stated you don't want me to do it solo. So, I'm kinda stymied. And no way am I going back to the rotating guest-host thing. Most episodes may have come out sounding okay, but trust me when I tell you that it was a fucking pain in the ass. And very stressful.

Lastly, PLEASE feel free to submit your own episodes of BTTB!! I don't how many different ways I can continue to say that I encourage anyone and everyone to submit shows!! Please! Send 'em in! I'll use them!

If Tales is done, can we get whatever shows you recorded, but haven't released?

All right then what about a bi-monthly or quarterly Two True Freaks version of MST3K. Pick a bad movie and do a funny commentary.

We will most definitely be doing more commentaries. In fact, we're set to record another VERY soon.

More commentaries! Woo!

Although, I would avoid trying to do a MST3K. Most people don't realize the amount of work it takes to properly riff a film - usually a minimum of 3 viewings (before the actual recording) to hash out the riffs, then noting all the time codes and syncing everything up. Trying to ad lib a feature length riffing is toooough.
