Big One Comic Podcast : Catwoman (DC)

Postby Crazy Clees » Tue May 22, 2012 11:09 pm

Sneaking through the shadows, our hosts purr at Catwoman in her own series with the storyline Anodyne. Andrew is MIA, but our duo scratches behind the ear of crime. We make innuendos that stick like hairballs in the carpet. Oh, and there is Slam Bradley. Get some LCS stories, tangents galore, and a visit from the ragin Cajun himself, Gambit.

Listen and enjoy this DC story - with art from Batman the Animated Series!

It seems like there is no pleasing Ryan: he Didn't want the joker as the villain, he didn't want clayface as the villain, and when it turns out to be some shmo (a different clayface, there have actually been 7), he wasn't happy with that either.

Based on this and other reviews, maybe ryan doesn't like books from the big 2.

I woulda taken the Joker. I like the Joker. I like books from the Big 2, just not ones we've read... I liked Old Man Logan

If this episode could have a title other then the book you reviewed it would have to be 'Slam Bradly'.

I love Darwyn Cooke's art style. Not a big Catwomen fan though.

Gambit's gumbo might cause me to charge and explode my toilet later on.

Wow! You really love us big and hard. :)

Can I ask what is "big" about this Catwoman comic? Was it the first of anything, or the last of anything? Or the best or worst of anything?

Seems that the show is getting away from "big events" and just doing any book. Which is not necessarily bad, but it may be better to select books that have some "importance" like the original intent of the show - the first time this artist did this character or worked for this company, first time these characters meet, death of a character, last time this writer wrote this book, critically acclaimed story, etc, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Our, parden the pun, biggest problem is that many strong, big stories are from the main 2 publishers, and with many of the same characters, it would become a boring podcast. We do want to change things up a bit. Maybe open eyes (listeners and hosts) to new things. I had never read a single Catwoman solo comic (other than the new 52 one). Now I know... I won't read any more of them.

We will try to keep in mind about the BIG events, but we also want to not do the same thing each time.

Thanks again for your pennies!

I understand your points...but also would say that independent comics can have "events" as well (such as reaching 1 or 20 or 100 or 300 issues). Maybe there's an important story arc that is not an "event" like Secret Wars, but is important to this particular book. I guess I'm saying that a podcast about "big events" should have at least some "event" to discuss about the book, otherwise it's just another podcast about comic books with no "hook". Remember your tagline is "Reviewing Big, Huge, Awesome Comics From Days Gone By", not "Reviewing Small, Tiny, Average Comics from 2 days ago."
