Uncanny Avengers #3 (Spoilers)

Postby AdamC » Thu Jan 24, 2013 4:44 pm

So, what does everyone make of this issue?

I really enjoy this narrative style so I'm pleased. The story is developing nicely, but I'm just surprised the next issue is the conclusion to the arc. '.' The art is great too, but is it worth the wait?

I'm still enjoying it, but the pace seems waaaaaay slow compared to the rapid publishing schedule of the other Marvel Now! books.

The narrative style felt very old-school Claremont in a way.

That said, if Remender's idea to make Havok more of an A-list character is by making Captain America think he's reckless, then I don't think that's going to work. Right now the only thing I want to see of Havok is Cap beat the crap out of him and then go see if Storm's available for leading the team.

i thought this book was supposed to be a Flagship title, but the only place i've heard the Uncanny Avengers referenced elsewhere is in Cable's X-Force. and that's so far from a relevant title, we have yet to develop a space program to travel there. ...that's how far it is from relevant. :}

that said, the release schedule does kind of suck, but in hindsight i bet this book will Kick serious Butts. the villain concept is still excellent, even if the hero concept (x-men on the avengers?! that's crazy! ...sunspot and cannonball? oh... i see) with Avengers and New Avengers gathering a slow momentum with biweekly schedules, we're getting an avengers every week where they're discussing world destroying consequences, while the uncanny avengers are dealing with "the living propaganda!" (gasp!) so again, as a stand alone title, this is still some great reading. but as part of the overall MarvelNOW launch... it feels very Astonishing X-Men. as in... in it's own little world.

It dawned on me while reading this issue that Remender is intentionally calling back the Claremontian style of writing. He's introducing new characters, briefly telling us who they are, and giving us lots of action with some nice character moments. The narration is also very Claremontian. As Antony pointed out, a lot of readers may see this as "hokey crap." I think it's purposely written with an old-school feel. I kind of dig it.

I think what I'm liking about the Marvel Now X books is that they all have such different tones.

I'm not liking it much at all. I'm willing to give Remender the benefit of the doubt and wait it out but Cassaday's art is looking really shitty to me.

Three drunks play Axis & Allies and foolishly record it
