New Avengers #3 (Spoilers)

Postby PSB » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:36 pm

Loving Hickman's New Avengers! Dark and brooding. Epting is awesome. Loved the introduction of Hank to the group and the exit of Steve. Nice to see Dr. Strange using the old medical training, too.

Thoughts?

I'd like to nick-name this issue "Identity Crisis done right." Really adds some new dimension to the "dream" that Steve had in Avengers #1.

Hank is handled well, which is great. I generally don't like the character, but I think I'm ok with his inclusion.

The scene with the gems was AWESOME. And I like how Thanos is being teased. It's on the nose, but is it?!

This is the kind of Illuminati story I would have liked to have read, when they first came up with the idea before Civil War. Agreeing to exchange notes and send Hulk into space, just didn't cut it for me. Beast is just... well... a beast lately. He's got his hands in every major change happening. Compared to him sitting in his lab for the last 20 years, this is some amazing stuff.

Would any of you agreed with Cap, and continued to take the high road on a hope and a prayer? I think I would have just killed all the other universes. I think they cause enough trouble as is.

I really looked at Cap as the square peg in this group. When I first saw the group I thought he'd have been replaced by Fury if I was writing it but he's the conscience of the illuminati and belongs. I'd like to see myself as doing the right thing but if I had to be honest with myself I'd pretty much be the Namor of this gang. Loud, obnoxious and wrong. Cap's going to be pissed when he wakes up.

Like I said--this is Marvel's take on Identity Crisis, except without the rape.

Nice catch Paul. Hickman rules. However, you just know that he's going to find out. Somehow I don't think everyone's going to be all warm and fuzzy with each other at the end of this run like his FF run.

Yeah, so far that's definitely the assumption that's going to bite our Illuminati on their asses pretty soon, that THEY'RE the only ones thinking about and noticing these kind of things.

...Now that I think about it, that would probably be something Cap should have suggested. Why not try to contact this alternate world and try to collaborate with them?

Holy crap this was awesome! I was favoring Adjectiveless over this but now I can't decide. Marvel now is giving us some of the best comics I've read in a LONG time.

I particularly like how he's easing his way in with some heavy familiarity ala Reed. I LOVE the Black Swan chick. I don't know if it's the looks, (She looks like a grown up Magik) or the attitude. ( She acts like a grown up Magik) Her line thanking Reed for the fries was perfect smarmy sarcasm. I can't believe I'm reading the Avengers much less that I'm loving them.

I hear you on the enjoying a lot more books than before, Phillies. I was reading about 12 before but enjoying maybe 1 or 2 and them mostly for the art. Now (um no pun intended) I'm loving a shit ton of these. I'm even reading BMB's End of Days Daredevil book and it's reminding me of the Frank Miller / Ann Nocennti days. It almost makes me want to check out the regular Daredevil. This may be a new golden age for Marvel. Fuck even Spider-Man is less douchy than normal.

Never thought I'd be washing Marvels balls but this current marketing scheme of theirs is working pretty good.

Not to veer off topic, but DDEOD is phenomenal, but that's to be expected since I thought bendis's daredevil run was a masterpiece

With hints in solicitations about the New Universe, do you think that Cap just instigated the White Event?

Seeing how the New Universe books came out in 1986 when I was in sixth grade (meaning that I'm old), I don't really expect too many folks around here to remember much about them.
