Finished "Batman: Night of Owls" trade last night. Wow. Great, great stuff, Snyder weaves a very compelling story, Capullo draws a fantastic Batman and some really creepy stuff. The little girl and old lady owls were particularly disturbing. The trade ends with all the owls jumping off the side of the building, cool shot. I'll definitely look for the second trade, I enjoyed it tremendously.

Glad you liked that so much. Now you know why Chuck and I rave about Batman so much.

I'm going to start with my pick of the week: Rocketeer Hollywood Horror #2. This is a very different take on Rocketeer, both in story being driven by a narrator and the art, which is very cartoony (in my estimation). Fun stuff, the Simonson covers are driving me to wait in line for him at a con this year to get a sketch of Secord.

Now, the not so fun stuff.

GI Joe #2: I was on the fence with the first issue. Talked to someone last night that said he thought this issue was better, so I was optimistic. I got the B cover, which has new Doc holding a gun like a wannabe gangster. SHE'S IN THE FRIGGIN' MILITARY, artistic license be damned. I get it's a comic book, but come on, it's ridiculous. The issue itself was a bit better than #1, but I get the impression that IDW really doesn't know what to do with the property. We're going down another path, which they claim is tied to the previous Dixon stuff, but certainly doesn't feel like it. Hashtag still sucks, I hope she's written out soon, the whole bit about hating guns and being in the serivce because ROTC scholarships are good? If I'd been Cover Girl, I'd have shot her myself.

Special Missions #1 and #2: I've met Chuck Dixon. He was a really, really nice guy. I've given him several years to build stories and characters. The first "season" ended with Cobra troops on the moon, never to be discussed again (that I can remember). The second "season" was all over the place. He's going to have to tell stories in shorter arcs here, but this first one so far is not that great. I hate that everyone's got a nickname ("Mains" in particular), and Bildocker is annoying as hell. Gulacy's art is scattershot as well, there are some pages that are fantastic, then some that are really rough. The first page of #2, the shot of Scarlett her eye seems to take up half her head.

I'm giving both the books the first arcs, but if they keep this up, I'll be dropping them. I'll stick to RAH, which while can be a hot mess story-wise sometimes, but it's been more consistent than the other books and I know I get consistently better art, even when there's a fill in. It's come to a point that I can't continue to support IDW in what feels like a continued reinvention with no real plan.

What is the Star Wars: Legacy #1 Comic about that came out last week. Is it a new ongoing series or a one shot story arc like most of the Dark Horse Stuff. I really am just tired of the one shot story arcs that Dark Horse has been doing. I do love the new ongong series of the Regular Star Wars though.

I haven't figured out how she's named Solo when the only Solo child that survived was Jaina an she married into the Fel's. And the Emperor in Legacy must have been a Solo descendant as well

Han Solo must have fathered a lot of children in his Smuggler Days.

BTW, thanks for the quick update on the mini-series.

Finished the first "Saga" trade. It was interesting, didn't engage me enough to want to read more. Fair warning, though, when they say it's "mature," they aren't kidding. The language is one thing, but there is some graphic sexy time depictions going on, so reader beware.

So I picked up Identity Crisis in trade, it was recommended to me by a friend. I really enjoyed it. I sat down with it and read it cover to cover, a great read. I will cover it on an Ammo Dump episode in the future so stay tuned.

For those of you reading RID and/or MTMTE, how ya feeling on the last couple issues and what's been happening?

MTMTE - With the long and steady build up with Overlord, I found myself incredibly disappointed when finally happened. Maybe I let my expectations get too high, I just wasn't satisfied, I didn't feel fulfilled. Granted, we have yet to see just how bad of shape the Lost Light crew is in and there is still the threat of the DJD, and that might make up for it. A one issue fight against Overlord with the 'Bots winning by dumb luck just didn't do it for me. Anybody else have that problem?

RID - I was one of the people happy that Optimus and Megatron for the most part have been left out. When Megatron returned I was hopefull that he would be used in a different way given the situation on Cybertron. But no, he goes right back into his motive operandi. On top of that, as certain things have been revealed we learn that it was all Megatron's doing...what, really? I'm not buying any of it. I'm feeling cheated. I think there is much greater story potential by not having Megatron being the reason why. It feels like an out to me. For the first time ever, I have begun to question John Barber's abilities as a writer. I am trying very hard to hold final judgement for when this arc wraps up and seeing where the story heads next, but the thought of dropping RID has already wandered into my mind.

With MTMTE I am totally not feeling it. The stories are getting redundant with either the threat of the moment or a story about things the characters did in their past. I feel like that book needs to get back on track.

RID I am enjoying a lot. I know it's cliched to have Megatron being the big bad and having orchestrated all of this, but it also makes sense. It's not all clear cut. Starscream still genuinely seemed to have wanted peace among all 3, or at least to control through manipulation of votes. There are some twists of things happening and there are big blockbuster movie moments that I enjoy in the story. So I agree it's like we've been here before, but I still enjoy the ride.
