Best week of new comics reading I've had in a while!

RAH #189: The fun continues.

Cobra Files #1: Should be Cobra #22, nice opening few pages can get new readers in. I was a little disappointed with the quick departure of a certain character, curious to see what happens with another character that's been out of commission for a while. I think Fuso has a new inker, the art didn't seem as "jagged" as some issues have looked in the past.

Rocketeer-Hollywood Horror #3: Roger Langridge writing Cliff Secord and the gang has been an absolute joy. Sorry to see this book wrapping up next issue, but next we get a Rocketeer-The Spirit crossover.

Black Beetle #3: I'm really enjoying this book, too. Francavilla loves pulp characters and this book is a tribute to that era. The storytelling in this issue is simply fantastic.

Star Wars #4: This issue didn't hold me like the first three. I felt a little confused during some of the X-Wing battles as to who was talking and where they were. Also, guessing the woman asking to be made a Moff by Vader will become a key player going forward.

Indestructible Hulk #6: Picked this up at VA Con this weekend in a dollar bin. Simonson drawing Hulk and Thor in the same book is fantastic. The last page splash of Hulk holding Mjolnir is amazing. Will probably look for the next few issues as long as Simonson's on art duties.

I think Simonson's run on Indestructible Hulk is three issues, both #7 and 8 are due in May. Walt is the only reason why I picked this up. I like Mark Waid, but when it comes to the Hulk, I have hard time with anything past the early 1980's

I know this is primarily a comic post, but I really wanna share a book i just read. Heart-Shaped Box, by Joe Hill. That being his pen-name. His real name is Owen King. And I gotta tell ya, this was an enjoyable read. I don't know how many of you are interested in horror novels, (I'm not the biggest fan of horror myself, but I always make time for Stephen King...and in this case his son) but you definitely need to give this one a try. It follows the life of an aging rockstar by the name of Judas Coyne (lame, I know but it's just a stage name). Think more Lemmy from Motorhead rather than Ozzy. He's into buying obscure items (Occult type and what not) and young goth girls. So when his lawyer buddy finds a ghost for sale online, he jumps at the opportunity. he soon finds out it's not a gag and that the ghost is very real and very pissed.
Like I said, not a classic but definitely a fun read.

Also, you may recognize the name . Joe Hill is the writer of the very excellent Locke & Key series. And also the inspiration of everyone's favorite peeping tom Sneak-Peak from '87.

I just read He-Man and he Masters of the Universe #1 of the new ongoing series. I like how it just jumps right into the action. I think the mini-series before this was a little long with the set-up issues, and I'm glad the new series is taking a faster approach. i also prefer Teela with the red hair.

Now I still haven't gotten the last few issues of the mini-series, so is this first issue picking up where the mini left off? Also, Teela implies that she knows that Adam is He-Man, did she learn that in the mini? And did Adora show up in the mini-series at all?

I was sick ALL week and caught up on a ton of trades I'd been meaning to read.

Daredevil trades #1-4 ( I love Daredevil again, perfect series)
Batman The City of OWLS- vol 2 of the new 52 series (very very solid book, must read)
X-Men Curse of the Mutants (catching up, I like Paco Medina, so-so story)
Savage She-Hulk (Red She-Hulk stuff) Carlos Pagulayan is one of my fav artists! Great book
Avengers Vol 1 (okay, Jerome Opena is amazing, Jonathan Hickman tries to hard)
Uncanny Avengers Vol 1 (I had Cassaday art, it annoys me, how the Red Skull gains telepathy by removing a dead Prof. Xavier's brain is a completely stupid idea. I like seeing Havok lead a team. The whole "M" word issue is incredibly annoying)
Hawkeye vol 1 (story is very fun, I think the art is incredibly overrated)
Wolverine: Rot (this book was terrible- I hated it)
Wolverine: Covenant ( much improved)
Punk Rock Jesus (too preachy about atheism, Sean's an old school mate and I dig his artwork. An interesting read, but I think it takes itself too seriously, probably will never read it again)
AvX, some of the tie-ins and the main series. (An interesting event, a little confusing with out reading everything involved. If you only read the main trade it feels like you're missing gaps in the story. I hate where the story leaves Cyclops and obviously Prof. X) Olivier Coipel's art is the best think in the arc. JRJR has completely fallen off my fav artist list. I almost can't stand it anymore....tooo bad. :(

I think that's it. I read all that in 3-4 days in between puking blood. It was a weird week. :?

I hope you are feeling better. Glad you were able to catch up on some reading. I agree with DareDevil and Batman, I love those books. I also read Hawkeye, I like the art in the book, its not great but its not bad. I really enjoy the story too. I enjoyed AvX but I agree about JRJR. I was tired of him when he was on Spiderman. I really dont read X-men, just not my thing. ;)
Are you reading Age of Ultron? I really like it and I think its better than AvX, IMO...
get well soon.

Hope you're feeling better, Robert. That totally sucks to go through that.

I like the Hawkeye art. I think it works for the style of the book, but wouldn't necessarily work everywhere. I love Batman. Such a great title. I enjoyed AvX, but some of the tie-ins were better than the main series. I agree on JRJR. I used to like his style, but maybe because it was similar to his father's. He lost me a few years back. Now it's just blocky and stiff looking to me.

Get better soon. We got to get that spinoff going soon.....

It's been a tremendous week of reading:

Hawkeye volume 1: Everybody's told me I should read this, so I finally picked it up at the library. It was OK, I wasn't as knocked out as I thought I'd be. There's some interesting panel work. I really enjoyed the Young Avengers story at the end...when did Clint become Ronin?

GI Joe #3: Story wise, I felt like this was a step up from the first two issues. The art is still iffy. I really like van Lente tying in the Adventure Team stuff, even Bulletman.

The Activity #12: Haven't had a new issue since January (I think), I've missed it. Flashback story to Fallujah in 2004. Guest art from Marc Laming, recommended.

Star Wars #5: I'm really enjoying the story, D'Anda's art is great, my only small quibble is his staging of vehicles in certain panels. His Boba Fett is freakin' fantastic.

Rocketeer Hollywood Horror #4: I've said it before and I'll say it again...if you like Roger Langridge, you should be reading this book. It was incredibly fun. J. Bone's work on it was fantastic, too.

Daredevil volume 2: The current Mark Waid run. Picked this up at the library as well. This is the best book I've read in I don't know how long. I haven't read DD since the 80s, I don't think I need to read anymore than what Waid's putting out now. Give it a shot, totally worth it.

Hawkeye was Ronin in the New Avengers series that took place after Avengers Disassembled. I really enjoy Hawkeye because it's very slice of life meets superhero w/ humor and action rolled into one. Hawkeye as a character is very Han Solo to me. He is sarcastic and just wants to get the job done.

For The Activity, I'm behind a few issues, but I have been buying them all. Was the title cancelled? I haven't seen it in Previews for months now.

Great weekend of reading:

Kingdom Come: Never read it, picked up the trade at the library. Good story, some of the best interior art I've ever seen, just beautiful stuff. Love Ross' Superman, but why did his symbol include black in it? Did I miss something?

Richard Stark's Parker - The Hunter and The Outfit: Read the first two graphic novels adapted by Darywn Cooke. He deserves every award he's received for them. Absolutely amazing storytelling. The art is fantastic, especially in "The Score" when he uses different style to explain different "hits" Parker and his cohorts make. If you like crime books, especially highly stylized stories of the 50s and 60s, check these out. Highly recommended.

Batman volume 2 - The City of Owls: Wow. Another superhero book like "Daredevil" that I would actually consider reading monthly. Snyder's run on this is astounding, I loved the Owls and the Mr. Freeze story was great, too. Really well done. I'll check out his take on Superman based on this and the first trade I read as well.

Kingdom Come is my 2nd favorite comic book story of all time. I can't remember if there was a reason for the black in the symbol. I have the absolute edition of it (had Mark Waid sign it at Baltimore Con last year). I'll look in it to see if they explain why.

Snyder is my definitive Batman writer. He's done enough issues for me to say that. I hope he is on the book for a good long run.

Just looked up some info, and don't know why I didn't remember this, he wore the black I believe after the death of Lois and the Daily Planet staff.

I just read the Transformers Spotlight on Trailcutter (formerly Trailbreaker). I don't know why they felt the need to change the character's name, but alright.

This was a fun one-shot. Nothing spectacular, but a decent read with some humor. For some reason the More Than Meets The Eye monthly book, and the opening of this spotlight issue, has shown Trailcutter as not liking his force field or his view of who he thinks he is. I don't know why they went in that direction with the character. Having a force field would be awesome, and incredible useful and powerful. But by the end of this issue he's happy and more appreciative of his special equipment. There is a little bit of a reveal in this issue that I liked. I'm hoping that it might play into the main story of the MTMTE book.

A funny little story with Trailcutter. Decent read. Worth giving it a look. I still don't know why they changed his name though.

The names seem to change a lot on the characters lately. Slag is now Slug. Bombshell and Shrapnel are now called other names. Just seems odd to me also.
