TMNT Co-Creator Peter Laird Agrees With Michael Bay About 'Alien Turtles'

Co-Creator Peter Laird expressed his beliefs in his blog this week over the concern of the Turtles being as he puts it "reimagined as aliens" for the upcoming TMNT movie and agrees with Michael Bay.
Laird posts that he is encouraging all TMNT fans to 'swallow the "chill pill" Mr. Bay recently suggested they take, and wait and see what might come out of this seemingly ill-conceived plan. It's possible that with enough truly creative brainpower applied to this idea, it might actually work. I'm not saying it's probable, or even somewhat likely… but it IS possible.'
He explains that over the years, ideas have come and gone about adding a "fifth" turtle and maybe call him 'Picasso' and how there was a character of "Kirby", 'the "fifth Turtle" that Kevin Eastman and I came up with for one of the several movie ideas which never came to fruition.'
Laird believes that someone has come up with an "genus" idea of having as many Turtles as they want and if each member is an alien race, than there could be a whole planet of them.

Co-Creator Kevin Eastman On Board With Michael Bay's Version Of The Turtles
by Jay Cochran in TMNT at 12:13 PM on 2012.03.22

Kevin Eastman who is half of the team that originally created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has finally made it known where comes down on the whole Michael Bay version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He posted the following on his Facebook page.
"Hey Guys, Sorry to have been away for so long--completely swamped with work--but it is some pretty exciting stuff. I had been invited to check out the TMNT film development by my friend Scott Mednick over the years, and a while back had a full look behind the curtian at what writers Appelbaum and Nemec, director Liebesman, and producer Bay are doing--and trust me--it IS AWESOME. I'm officially on board, and will share more as I'm allowed... thanks all!"
Outrage among many fans broke out earlier this week when a video clip from a Nickelodeon Upfront presentation hit the internet that featured Michael Bay who is producing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles big-budget movie for Paramount Pictures. In the video Bay says kids are going to see this movie and believe that these turtles do exist when they are done with the movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.
Making the Turtles part of some kind of alien race instead of mutated turtles from Earth has really upset many long-time fans of the franchise, that of course if in fact is what Bay has planned.
Let us know, does the fact that one of the TMNT creators supports Bay's plans make you feel better about the upcoming movie?

bah Peter Laird is an old reprobate. I wonder how much Bay payed those 2 to side with him. He's so sneaky.

I read Laird's comments last night and I wouldn't characterize them as 100% agreement. There was some snark aimed at the Bay-licious. Rightfully so I may add.

Whatever happens, I don't want to hear anybody talking their "childhood being raped." I think equating changes in a property you grew up with to one of the most vile things one person could do to another incredibly ignorant and insulting to people that have been affected by such an event. Sorry to get so serious, but I see this term more and more these days and it makes me ill.
Eastman and Laird have made more money than most of us will ever imagine, and they sold what they rightfully owned to the highest bidder. If the new property owner wants to create utter garbage with the likes of Bay (who turned me off with whole scenes about jerking off in a movie about fighthing robots), so be it. Enjoy the toys, comics, cartoons, and movies (I like the Vanilla Ice stuff, I think it's hilarious) you already have and show them your lack of interest by not spending any money on the product. It's the only way they'll actually listen...cash is king.
Rant over.

I know i'm going to hate it but i'm not gunna lie, i'm still going to see it, and probably in theaters too. Even though they're going to be aliens, they're still going to be Ninja Turtles.

If they brought in the triceratonoan empire or whatever those guys were called that might be interesting to, but right now I want Michael doucheBay nowhere near this. Maybe if they give us more info soon I'll cool down a bit.

I was never really into the TMNT so I dont have the rage about the movie. I think I was more judgemental of the Transformers movies than this. I just want the turtles to be less g rated and more R rated for me. I want them to kill ninjas

In what now seems to be an almost daily occurrence of damage control since the initial comments made by producer Michael Bay about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles possibly having their origins tweaked with an alien influence, we now have Jonathan Liebesman who is directing the upcoming movie from Paramount chiming in with the following via Collider:
“Look, it’s so funny—if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don’t know, but we are like Michael said: we’re expanding it, and the expansion will be true to the mythology. I promise you: fans will love it.”
“Whatever mythology we’re building on or expanding is coming from that guy, Kevin Eastman’s head, who created the Turtles in the first place. And so everything will tie in with the mythology; fans will be extremely excited with what we’re coming up with. A lot of it is stuff he’s wanted to do for a long time, but just hasn’t had the opportunity because now we have the budget and things on this film to expand it in the right way. And so, I’m happy that everyone is extremely passionate, and they will not be disappointed. It’s all coming from the best possible place for this franchise.”

To anyone who feels Bay is ruining the franchise, I simply tell them to read the current comic book. It is the best ninja turtles continuity I've ever read. The turtles will survive long after whatever Michael Bay does to it.
Remember, Joel Schumaker didn't ruin Batman. Batman ruined Joel Schumaker.
