Baseball, show your loyality

Postby the chuck » Fri Mar 30, 2012 6:58 am

With the 2012 Baseball season fast approaching I was wondering if anyone else out there is a baseball fan or has a favorite team that they root for? I personally love the Chicago Cubs.
If you are a fan or just have a rooting interest please let us know.
Thanks,

Go Cubs!!!

Baseball, show your loyality

I'm a long suffering Houston Astros fan. Not sure what I think about the combination of: a crappy team, a new owner and moving to the AL West.

I'm a hard core A's fan as well as a big time angels fan. It helped that my 5th grade teacher was married to the son of the angels gm at the time and would later become the gm of the angels then the mariners.

Even tho my wife is an orioles fan and I'm not I do love Camden yards as a place to watch a game. Beautiful park

Oh. I also root for whoever is playing the yankees, red sox, rangers or dodgers. F'ing Kirk Gibson. Never forgiven him or the dodgers for 88.

If any combo of those teams is playing I root for an unmanned plane to crash onto the field.

When it comes to sports, I hold grudges for a long, long time. My hatred of the Yankees started in college. I was a Braves fan for awhile from when I was 10 until sometime in my 20's. When the Yankees/Braves World Series came about in the 95, 96 or whenever it was I kept getting accused of being a band wagon Braves fan, never mind I had multiple Braves t-shirts that I wore at least one a week. But at the same time the people telling me that were saying it was ok for them to be a band wagon fan because they were from New York or Jersey. It drove me nuts.

I also prefer seeing different teams in the playoffs ever year. When I see teams like the Red Sox and Yankees year after year after year I get tired of them. I almost wish they'd put some sort of salary cap into baseball to make it a more even playing field. Teams like Oakland, the Pirates, Royals etc. Small market teams just can't compete for long these days. They can draft and trade well but when they get break out players they have them only for a couple years before they have no hope of keeping them because teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, even the Angels who have owners with a lot of money snatch them up. I'm shocked that a player like Longoria has stayed with the Rays for as long as he has.

Here's a question, what cities to people think could support a MLB team? The ones that pop off the top of my head almost instantly are:

Las Vegas
Salt Lake City
Memphis/Nashville
Charlotte, NC

Memphis/Nashville is one I wonder a bit about since I'm not sure which is bigger, how far apart they really are and which city has the Titans.

I also wish there was a cap for that same reason.

I definitely think Charlotte and Vegas could support teams.

IMO Vegas will never get a professional team of any kind, too much gambling going on there.

Vegas has a minor league team. I hate that excuse from the professional sports leagues to not put a team there because of gambling. It's a total cop out.
