Nickelodeon TMNT concerns

Postby Zero » Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:57 pm

Let me get on my soap box :x

I saw a couple of clips of the new tmnt series and I am a little worried. It seems they could be going the Ultimate Spiderman route by putting a more anime influence in. Which in the case of Ultimate Spiderman is not a good thing. I do like anime and I liked Teen Titans which had strong anime influence. Difference between the two is Teen Titans was able to balance out the anime influence and still tell serious stories. Granted Teen titans did have some silly episodes (Mad Mod episodes). However, Teen titans was able to find a balance, while Ultimate Spiderman just uses its anime influence to just be silly. Hopefully the animators will balance out the animation on TMNT so it doesn't take away from the story. I will have to see come September.

I am now getting off my soap box

I actually like the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Is it silly? Yes. Did they mean for it to be silly? Obviously. Is it more geared to kids than some previous incarnations? Absolutely.

And I guess that is why I like it. When a cartoon is giving me an obvious direction they are going for, I still enjoy them. It's when the animation style looks silly but they try to do serious stories, or hey have been doing serious stories, but then they start going silly with it. Ultimate Spider-Man is not trying to be like Avengers. If Avengers started doing the silly breaking the 4th wall things that Ultimate Spider-Man does, then I would have a problem.

I have barely watched any clips from the TMNT show, but it is done by Nickolodeon as a kids show, so I'm not expecting comic book dark. I'm expecting something light like the 80s cartoon.

End of my soapbox. LOL

Coming from a person who LOVES, LOVES, LOVES anime, that look is getting hella played out.... It's so played out, anime isn't even using it anymore (i.e. the recent Marvel animes).

I get that. Hell, my favorite Spider-Man cartoon is still the 90s run hey did, and that certainly wasn't silly or cartoony, but it was still for kids.

And while I like Ultimate Spider-Man, I prefer cartoons out now like Avengers and Young Justice a lot more....which are not silly.

I'm still excited to see how this TMNT goes. Just good to see them back...as long as it doesn't suck.
