DC Reviews

Postby MikeMyersBrunch » Sat Mar 24, 2012 9:45 am

Justice League #7 really enjoyed Gene Ha on pencils. Loved the new Steve Trevor. Shazam seems really interesting. Interesting enough I almost found this story better than the previous. It was weird about the Justice League International comment. (4/5). I think the majority of people will probably miss Jim Lee's pencils but not me. Johns and Gary Frank could tell every origin story and I would be perfectly happy.

Green Lantern Corps #7 Still my favorite Green Lantern title as John and Guy deal with the ramifications of last issue. Also I thought the guest artist did a good job. 4/5

Read some DC Vertigo titles this morning

Fairest #1 not caught up in Fables as I am reading that in trade but this was a good story and the artwork was very nice. Looking forward to where the story is taking us but I was not blown away. (3/5)

Saucer Country #1 for some reason I loved the politics and alien connection in this story. This Vertigo series really worked for me and I am looking forward to the next issue. (4/5)

JL #7 seemed very boring. It felt like a wonder woman issue and if i wanted to read that then i would pick up wonder woman.

Our tastes seem to defer. I like Gene Ha's pencils better than Jim Lee and I thought there was more story in this book than prior issues. I also loved the back up. We discussed this book in detail in episode 172 which should come out next week.

While not DC here is a short review
AvX The Infinite #1 was supposed to make my digital reading experience better. It was nice, story was just OK. Not worth it IMHO. (3/5)

Oh, the Shazam backup... it was about 50-50 for me. The revamped Dr. Sivana was definitely intriguing. He looks like Lex Luthor, which is weird, but he actually seems like a real threat now instead of just a silly little mad scientist. The Black Adam connection was interesting, and the fact that we see Billy reading it later was cool. The "new" costume looks good. I mean, it's really the same costume, but with a hood. I've heard some really negative comments about it, even though it's one costume that's had far fewer changes to it than the rest of them, so I don't get what's wrong with it. I like all that stuff.

But... okay, I get that we're just getting introduced to Billy for the first time, and we don't know much about his life or what he's like, but... seriously, he's just a little brat, and I'm just not happy about it. This is more than just "not the Billy we used to know." This is a completely different kid. The Billy we used to know was what he was trying to pretend he was to the foster parents. In fact, I thought it was cool at first when he was talking about himself, because I thought, "Yeah, that's Billy." Then he completely changed on me! That's not Billy!

Now, I understand that there's probably the "he's been hardened by his life in the horrible orphanage" justification, but horrible things happened to him in previous stories, too, and he didn't turn out as a little brat. I mean, his parents died and not only was the inheritance they left him stolen by his uncle but he was kicked out of the house and lived on the street. As a kid. And he was still good, not a little snit.

So, yeah, I'm a bit upset by it, but... I'll keep reading, half because I'm still a huge Captain Marvel fan, and half because I'm going to be getting Justice League anyway, so I might as well at least glance over it.

OMAC #8 was off the hook AWESOME. Thank you Dan and Keith for bringing my childhood to life again with this comic book. I buy about 140 comics a month and if I could buy only one OMAC would be it. I loved this run and Jack Kirby would be proud. Now I need a Kamandi or New Gods from Dan and Keith. PLEAAASEE!!!! THANK YOU and DC Comics for 8 fantastic issues of FUN that made me feel like a kid again. OMACTIVATE!

Mike did you read hawk and dove 8? I know you rarely rate a comic under a 3/5, but this is the worst comic I've read in a loooong time.
