Marvel Now Point One!

Postby DarkKnightJared » Sun Oct 21, 2012 1:51 am

Someone wanted to talk about it on here, so I figured I'd start it.

So the framing sequences was decent--gave a good enough feeling of suspense and mystery about it, even if it's not so much a story but a thinly veiled advertisement.

I'm just starting to get into the Marvel Cosmic stuff, so while I know there are people who are dreading this new take on GOTG, I'm going to try to keep an open mind, and this strong story with Star Lord, even if the dead parent thing is kind-of a troupe (and this is coming from a Batman guy).

Nova...I liked the Superman call-out, and the McGuiness art was pretty. The rest was kinda blah, just really didn't call out for me.

Now Young Avengers...holy SHIT am I pumped for this now. Great writing, beautiful art, that damn flyer...beautiful.

FF...it ends with Ant-Man spray-painting a mustache on a mural of Doctor Doom. If you don't read that story and find that hilariously awesome, then we can't be friends.

The Forge story--or, as I like to call it, "METAPHORS!"--is probably the most forgettable, but I guess it's there to explain away his breakdown back in Astonishing so that they can start fresh in Cable & X-Force.

So yeah, good stuff.

Darn you dude, I just started a post and then noticed you got there first! Kudos to you.
I've only scanned the stories so far but the Young Avengers definitely stands out to me. Big fan of Gillen. Once I've properly read the book, I'll post my thoughts on here.

I thought it was ok. Some stories shined better than others. Young Avengers was probably my favorite. I hope they don't change Star Lord's back story too much and I knew the ending of the Forge story before I got to it.

My biggest problem is that the Ultron War got pushed back. It was supposed to come out this summer but got pushed back to next year. So all the teasing of the event is getting boring, and it's not like Marvel is building up any other excitement around it either...What point one issue of Avengers was it? 12.1? Issue 31 or 32 just came out. Seriously though, what ever happened to the guys who raided the Watcher's headquarters? Yin/Yang fire/ice brother/sister? Which seem terrible BTW. I like Fury JR as well but this story should be tangently teased in other books.

I remember reading an interview with Bendis about GOTG and mentioned that he's actually focusing on taking that origin and keeping it but playing it up in different ways. Which makes some sense, since when I read up on it, I thought, "...Wow, this is basically Hal Jordan except on a satellite."

The push-back of the Ultron War and the fact that Samuel L Fury has taken nearly a year to make an appearence since Battle Scars has baffled me. He made a mini-appearence in Scarlet Spider #9 (I believe) but I think that is it.
