Go to storyline/trade

Postby frell » Fri May 04, 2012 4:19 am

What is everyone's go to x-book? I am reading the Phoenix saga since AvX has me excited about the Phoenix once again, then I started to think about what my favorite X-storyline is. Whedon's Astonishing is pretty high on my list so far.

The collected trades of the 1995-1996 Age of Apocalypse sit fairly prominent on my book shelf.

As do the Onslaught trades, but that's just my era of reading when growing up. It's important to note that those two examples are the few occasions where I own both the single issue floppies AND then went out and purchased the trades as well. For big collected stories that span multiple titles, I find the trade more convenient and simpler to read than trying to track down the single issues from the various separated-by-title long boxes.

The original Wolverine mini, Onslaught, Fatal Attractions...that's it, really. I don't have a go-to X-Men story, I guess. I like most of the characters, but most of the stories don't stick with me. Now, ask me about a go-to Spider-Man or Batman story, I can write you a book.

I love my AOA trades. It brings back memoires of my High School days

I also really like my Inferno trades I have. I know people have mixed opinions on the story but that when I first started to read x-men and I really do enjoy the hell out of it.

A mix of new and old for me.

For old, Fatal Attractions.

For new... Necrosha.

Change it up a little, then. Go to trades/storylines for comics in general?

Mine: Batman Year One, Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt, I Kill Giants, Maus, JLA: Tower of Babel, and V for Vendetta.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is awesome.I enjoyed Infinite and Final Crisis too. Also Kingdom Come.

you know what my X go to book is probably Giant Sized it was a start of an era.Anything I refer people to read is usually a go to book for me so that'd be one.

almost forgot The Sandman Series, man those book was amazing. I painted murals on my wall of the dream king and his son & I've dressed up as Death for Halloween.

1) Days of Future Past
2) Age of Apocalypse
3) The Dark Phoenix Saga
4) E is for Extinction
5) Asgardian Wars

I love Whedon's Astonishing run, but I couldn't put it on my go to list. The more I think about it, the more I realize Whedon didn't really bring anything new to the table. He took his love for Claremont, mushed in some Grant Morrison, and had Cassaday make it look real pretty. It was well written, well drawn, and highly entertaining, but it wasn't ground breaking. It was a love letter by a fan for fans, but I love when stories try to do something new and different. Obviously this is just a personal preference thing.

As for non-X stuff...

1) Sandman
2) Y: The Last Man
3) Fables
4) King City
5) Anything by Alan Moore.
