i agree with CIBAWAG, storm and wolverine are the meat and potatoes of the x-men to me. my favourite era was when cyclops left and psylocke, dazzler, and longshot joined. the dynamic of the 8 "outback" x-men was exceptional, and so my team would have to at least resemble that lineup.
Storm
Wolverine
Colossus
Rogue
Psylocke
L̶o̶n̶g̶s̶h̶o̶t̶ Nightcrawler
D̶a̶z̶z̶l̶e̶r̶ Jubilee
H̶a̶v̶o̶k̶ Gambit

how awesome would it have been if rogue and colossus got together after shadowcat left. at first rogue would feel he was the only one she could touch so it was a default match, but she'd come to rely on his appreciation for beauty as an antithesis to her own self destructive past. plus the eventual tension between her and shadowcat would've been rich, especially if during a fight, they were both phased and there was nowhere kitty could run! bring in gambit later to flirt up a storm with an unresponsive psylocke though just as she's finally thinking he's not a sleaze, he's fallen instead for rogue. maybe resulting in a hurt psylocke who "forgets" to notify rogue during a team emergency and she nearly gets hurt. you know that kind of petty teen angst stuff. nightcrawler and jubilee serve as confidants for the others, characters the others can confide their secrets with, while storm and wolverine try to keep everyone focussed on staying alive despite being hunted by marauders, reavers, sentinels, and genoshans.

Here is my team:

I noticed that Gambit is on pretty much everyone's team or dream team, but my question is: When will the writers take him back to being the thief with a heart of gold?

The team I most connected with was generation x, which was just starting when I started reading comics. Uncanny and Adjectiveless were kind of a mess at that point (at least to the eyes of a 11 year old). Synch was my favorite, I'm still pissed he (and skin) were needlessly killed off. I canT wait until 2023 when you get to this stuff in the retros.

Cyclops (leader)
Jean (Chick/heart of the team)
Wolverine (lancer)
Iceman (comic relief/young guy/elemental)
Nightcrawler (religious guy/freak)
Beast (scientist/intellectual)

I think that's it. Probably my team. If you were to add a 'sixth ranger' or token bad guy to the team I'd have to go with toad due to my strange lo e for him.

I like that Jean's role is "chick" and not telepath or something. Way to get with the times, IcemanDan!

When I think of the X-Men, I think of the Outback era team: Storm, Wolverine, Dazzler, Havok, Rogue, Psylocke, Colossus. (Longshot never really did anything or was around that much, so I don't really include him.) Storm & Wolverine were the foundation of this team. They were both at their kick-ass peak too. (Storm has been so misused lately). Colossus & Havok: two old-time members made fresh by throwing them in with the newer members. Psylocke: so mysterious and beautiful Rogue & Dazzler: bickering like sisters. I LOVED it!

Dream team? I have to think on that.

I wish that Mike Carey's "Supernovas" team had stuck around for a lot longer- so much interesting interplay that could have occurred on that squad but was not meant to be because-goddammnit- editorial needs their summer crossover (even if that was a pretty damn good one)

Longshot pops in and gives two lines every other issue of X-factor. They're well timed lines, but there's not really a big focus on him at all.
Its my favourite characters' universe. Your favourite characters just live in it.

Thanks man. I've enjoyed a lot of Peter David's prose stuff, but I haven't checked out X-Factor in a long time.
