I think we were left with minor questions for a reason, to keep us interested. if everything wrapped up in a tight little package the audience is going to file the movie away and move on to the next big movie coming out. Damon Lindelof does what he does best and keep us guessing.

Here's an interesting pic from a scene in the film that I failed to see the first time around. Note the tear in the stomach area representing the Titan Prometheus / Jesus / prologue Engineer, or a premonition of a later scene involving Shaw and/or epilogue Engineer.

I haven't seen it but this movie got savaged by my relatives. I even asked them what they thought of Michael Fassbender's performance and none of them knew who I was talking about. Two out of the three didn't even know who I was talking about when I said he played the role of "David".

I thought Prometheus was wicked. Loved it. Cannot understand all the negativity.
Suspend your disbelief and stop picking holes in everything, or I'll get my dad and Sigourney Weaver onto you.

wicked 70's actually (just). It's worth pointing out that he's 6'1 as well...
He used to run a cinema in London in the 70s, so has a lot of pics like this from premiers and stuff.

Pretty cool photo, dude. :) And young Sigourney Weaver's looking pretty cute. That space-suit scene in Alien remains one of the hottest movie-memories of my youth...

Freakin' Prometheus. :|

I'm kind of angry with the whole project now. After a few weeks of digging around, listening to podcasts & reviews & blogs examining & picking apart the film, and checking out all the info and images of scenes that were deleted from the film, and the supplemental online material, and synopsis of the original script, I've come to the conclusion that the movie COULD have been AWESOME. Scott had a script that was what most folks (ALL folks?) wanted: A direct prequel to Alien. Instead of producing that film, he calls in a guy to re-write the script, and we get something that has the skeleton of the planned Alien prequel, but has been twisted and distorted so that the minimum of people are offended, and the door is opened up to turn the thing into a new cash-generating trilogy. Fucking Bullshit.

I hope that the blu ray release will include a re-cut or unaltered version; one that presents the film as it was originally planned. Because right now, I can't think of any way a sequel can clean up or rationalize all of the stupid bullshit that made Prometheus into a freaking mess. Fuck; I can't help but think that right now, the film is in danger of just being swept under the rug.

With all the other sequels going down hill, it was a smart move to take the story into a different direction. There can still be an Alien prequel, the movie didnt butcher any lore, nor change the original story. I think it boils down to modernization and what type of audience they wanted to attract. Don't let the Internet skew your view with all the negative content.

Everything you said there makes perfect sense, and I agree with you. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed watching the movie. There was definitely come cool stuff in it. I'm just disappointed that the production team didn't stick to the original plan of making it an Alien prequel. Either that, or eliminate the more obvious nods to Alien and actually make it a different film. It looks like they left just enough of the original script elements in place to let us imagine what could have been. The bad thing is, much of that stuff doesn't make sense spliced into the new story they're trying to tell.

in fact, a lot of it feels like tacked-on fan-service or completely improbable coincidence. For example; the movie gives us a ruined alien spacecraft containing a gigantic, dead alien with its chest exploded, but then tells us it's a different alien planet, and a different alien spacecraft containing a different gigantic dead alien with its chest exploded. And yes, there is a warning beacon left warning folks away from the planet, but it's a different distress beacon left by a different person under different circumstances. It's all just a coincidence that the circumstances so closely mirror what Nostromo discovered in Alien.
