Even though the price point is high I think the exposure/reminder counts for a lot. Constantly seeing comics in a 7/11 or supermarket reminds people that they are our out there and sometimes the cover will grab people.

I had some time to waste before dinner the other day and I stumbled into a LCS. It wasn't like I remembered. The back ittue bins went back only about 4 months. They were really nice and helpful but tried to sell me on a pull box, which from Rob's stories I knew to avoid like the plague. I asked for Kick Ass TPB because I heard it was really good. They said they'd order it for me and I'd get 15% off. Even with the 15% it was about $5 more expensive then a brand new copy on amazon and it's been 2 1/2 weeks and it's still not in yet.

Oh and someone who knows nothing about comics would have no idea what to do. There was one avengers comic that looked like it was made because of the movies, but then there was 4 other avengers comics, all seemed to be in the middle of a long storyline. You all know how confusing the x-men section is. I can see most casual or prospective readers going in, feeling intimidated and leaving with nothing.

Don't let 50 shades scare you guys away from your girls....at the end of the day, they want to be treated like that.. :? ...just not in the tormenting way, but in the "take advantage of me" romantic way.. :D ..it is a subtle difference, but it's there....and honestly my wife who has read the books has uhhh....you know.. ..tried some new things.....and uhh....you know....it's been good.... ;)
I mean come on....are any of you guys telling me you wouldn't want your lady to do some crazy stuff to you??? Come on.... 8-)

ah man im so against this 50 shades of grey, I say watch porn. My man "friend" and i were talking about it last night cause he wants to read it and see what the hype is all about and I said if i find the audiobook for free i'll 1/2 listen at work only so we can discuss it. His need is further fueled now that one of his female coworkers started reading it and giving him details. We spent the rest of the night trying to cast the movie (male lead Dr. Christian Troy) and wondered what actress would like to get naked. Our conclusion anyone from True Blood.

anyways always good to try new things.

I've never heard of it. Wikipedia say it involves BDSM. I am so not into that, and if my wife was, I'd be worried, mostly about her self esteem. I'd be like "Listen hun, if your up for getting spanked a bit, in a blindfold, that's fine but pain and humiliation isn't pleasure for me. Pleasure is pleasure."

Bret Easton Ellis wants to write the screenplay and wants Ryan Gosling and Kristen Stewart in it.

If extremely graphic depictions of sex are the only thing that gets the (almost exclusively female) population to read a book, i'm pretty disappointed in society.

Kristen Stewart cast in anything makes me disappointed also.

Bearing in mind its pretty much an adapted fan fiction also, how bizarre.

Man, are Brian and Rob ever prophetic. Paradox's burgeoning popularity in Episode 100 precedes the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon by over a year.

Also, it seems a little rich that Rob is worrying about Amanda reading Fifty Shades of Grey. It can't be much more explicit than Claremont's 25-issue-spanning Shadow King arc that is currently being discussed in the Retro Reviews, right?

Loving the new episode so far. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought the gay Green Lantern story was blown up to ridiculous proportions. Don't know why mainstream media made a big deal out of it considering Alan Scott is probably not even in the top 5 of most famous Green Lanterns. His biggest moments were in Kingdom Come and a brief appearance on Smallville. And they didn't even mention his name either time.

I used to think that comics biggest problem was availability, but you guys are right. Even if they ended up back in 7-11s and on grocery store spinner racks, the price point is way too high to compete with toys, DVDs, games, and all the other options kids have nowadays. Of course, the extra distribution boost could result in a less expensive product. But even if they could get it down to two dollars an issue, I'm sure the average parent or kid with disposable money would laugh at paying that much for something that could be read in about ten minutes.

i'll put it best on 50 shades by just saying...different strokes for different folks. everyones different, and someones interpretation of what it is, could certainly be misinformed based on previous non-specific experience that influences current opinion. Just like growing up with your parents who always told you this or that about something...you believed it, until you experienced it for yourself and perhaps grew outside of their comfort level to realize that it isn't so bad from your perspective....but the parents perspective will always remain because it is at the point of "accepted belief" and it is ingrained into their state of being. Most people can't step outside their level of comfort, and even though 50 shades is NOT torture sex or whatever else is thought, most classify as that because it is the glove that most easily fits the hand. To reinforce the ideal, one affirms it to themselves and completely dismisses the entire novel, ultimately putting one in a position of someone who has never experienced, but whole-heartedly believes they have the entire concept under their thumb. I blame a world of instant gratification with the glorius internet....we can easily synopsize (a verb?) anything and feel we know what it is about. And truly, there is not enough time for us all to partake in such a dilligent task like learning everything about something...we do we can with the little time chunks we get....
