Yep; I had to go back & google her: First appeared in issue 4 of the first X-Factor run. And I used to collect that series LOL! I didn't remember her. Goes to show that even what appear to be throwaway characters can be developed into something cool.

Chamber, Beak (I know people hate on him, but I think Morrison's Beak was a fantastic charter), Quentin Quire, and Layla Miller. I agree with Maggot. There was a lot of unused potential there.

I think Layla's been thoroughly ruined at this point. She was only good pre-messiah complex.

I guess I can't really argue with Beak, you either like what Morrison was doing with him or you don't. I was fine with him as long as he was just a student, but once we started getting full-on Special Class issues and his relationship with Angel got more serious I thought it was too ridiculous and got in the way of better storylines that were going on at the time.

For me it would have to be Chamber, although I feel that no story has every really captured the imagination and mystery of this character like his intro in the first few Generation X issues. Also, I've only really read a few of his most "recent" appearances so I may not be up to snuff on his full story. Just a really original and creative character that had SO much potential. (Also, nobody draws him better than his creator -- Bachalo.)

Oops; I forgot about Chamber! He's definitely a cool character, and I agree, he has tons of potential. I'm not ready to read Legacy on the off chance that I'll get more background on him though. Seriously; WHY a series based on Legion? Am I in the minority with my dislike of the character?

Thanks for the link, man. I'm downloading it now. :) I love the X-Men, but I think I'm going to leave Legacy alone unless / until I hear some buzz about it becoming a book about more than Legion.

I like Legion but that doesn't justify the abortion that Spurrier has created around him

and I also agree that Chamber loses a lot without Bachalo. Likewise Skin and Synch, really, which explains why they got rid of them, though I think Chamber was always a better character than they were.

Bachalo did the best Jubilee for my money, too, but that's probably blasphemous. But seriously, look at this:

A lot of why that art looks awesome is the inking of Mark Buckingham (current artist of Fables). Bachalo is an absolute beast, but his art looks even better with Bucky on assists. That's why the early issues of that Gen X run looks so amazing.

I Have to go with Chamber too! I love his origin story and moodiness, makes for a compelling character--got way weird during Age of A though..

You are right he had the best look with his face and whatnot. Haha. ^ So sad that I have always kind of hated Jubilee, because when I was young I started with the x-men cartoon from the early 90s where she is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. But she does look great there!

One of the best contributions of Rob L. to comics: Cable. *tosses down microphone & walks off stage*

(Yeah, I know baby Nate first appeared in Claremont's Uncanny, but grown-up Cable wasn't created until years later)

In all seriousness, I have a big affinity for Pixie. Although let's switch this up, who is the best character created pre Claremont?

pre-Claremont everyone was two-dimensional, for the sake of this discussion i've been taking into account each character's whole history, not just the part of the run being discussed

mainly i'm interested in what it takes to create a character that will last, not so much who wrote who the best, that's an entirely different discussion
