Great episode.

I feel the same you guys do about Uncanny it's not very good & really hasn't been great for years.

Some good listener call-ins... I'm gonna try to avoid the religion talk on this thread, and trump up the MaskedHero-getting-laid-online talk... because I know this will be a very long thread if I get involved in the religion talk... just saying.

I've met one girl online in person, and she was crazy, and fun, and perverted, and I didn't regret it all. Consequently I've met women in person just as instantly, and I have many regrets in that. Yes you should be wary of people you meet online, but no more so than you would any other way of finding people. If you're smart, and not gullible, you can find what you're looking for a lot easier using plentyoffish, but there is no way of knowing who someone really is until you've spent enough time together in person. Hooking up with someone within the first 2 hours is always risky, but how you first meet has no bearing on that at all.

Anyways, hope you had fun Maskedhero.

Are the comics getting worse, or is it just you? I say it's just you. You're understandably upset that New Mutants is terrible. You are pointing to like three examples of bad X-books out of a dozen of them. We got rid of three low selling books in the last month. New mutants is now one of the lowest selling books, and is most likely the next on the chopping block, and Gillen is not expected to be on Uncanny much longer. So they are getting better.

As different as our opinions are, I can say with confidence that you, Rob and Brian, are jaded. I mean, everyone of us has a problem with at least some X-books, but you guys have really taken the glass half empty approach.

Rob, how do you not pick black cat for hottest.

I am a huge x fan, but uncanny's about as bad as I can remember, and I don't think I'm jaded. I'm loving other comics like daredevil, asm, ff, and many others. I agree with you guys about uncanny. Since gillen has started writing the book by himself his villains have features: the breakwolders, phalanx, tabula rasa people, and the unit. All weird alien creatures.

The feelings you have about the hunger games are, oddly enough, the same thoughts I have about a song of ice and fire.

Manic, how so? It's definitely not written for 13 yr olds, and it's hardly the next Ender's Game?

To be pithy, I could say it's turning out to be the next Wheel of Time series based on his last two books. Though I'm probably closer to the million person to say that than the first.

I enjoy the book series the same way one might enjoy a soap opera. I don't find the books particularly deep or insightful, or that well written (more so as the books have gone along). Martin, for a few books now, has gotten to the point where either he doesn't feel he needs an editor, or the editors are too afraid to tell him that he's getting too long winded and should be tightening up the writing and the plot of his books.

The feelings I was talking about are hearing people talk about a series and feeling like you are reading something completely different from what they are. He's no Tolkien as a writer or a world builder, and I've seen the comparison too many times (not sure about where the 'RR' thing from him comes from, but to me it comes off as beyond pretentious of him, though it could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for him using it).

My drunk voice-mail/outro is frightening, hahaha. Actually, I was drunk last time I called in, too. Rob, I think I've fallen into your pattern... Although, I do suppose wine is classier than spiced rum, LOL. Whoopsie.

I really enjoyed the Hunger Games. Now, those two abortions that came after...oh, wait, those were meant to be sequels, sorry, are another story. Granted, I read the first one LONG before the hype, so I wasn't burned out on it like I know I could have been. No, the violence in the book isn't inappropriate (age-wise) for a fucking Young Adult book. Anyone who says otherwise is exhausting. Much more graphic violence is depicted in endless supply everywhere. I will say that I do like that the book (I'm just going to ignore those other two nonsense tumors on the end there...) takes a serious tone on the social/political issues inside. Refreshing in a YA novel. Granted, let's be real, Collins does kind of bash you over the head with the themes. And if preteen girls are going to hype this series as the next Twilight, I would say that Katniss is a FAR FAR FAR better role-model than that twit, Bella. Oh, and the HG movie is boss!

Ah, baggin' on Harry Potter, my childhood, guys. No, you guys really weren't that hard. Granted, I SOOOOO grew up at just the right era for the Potter series. I think that I was just a few years younger than Harry was in every year of the books, so I was right in that sweetspot of both idealizing him and experiencing the same loss of innocence and dissapointment in authority figures at the same time. Plus, Hermione, come on, a boy's gotta dream.

I feel like I'm jaded at this point, when it comes to comics, and I'm not quite 20. Somehow seven years of comic reading seems way too short to be jaded. Just, so often I feel like when I'm reading a modern comic, it just doesn't live up to what I had hoped it would be.

Do you guys think that maybe the comic book characters modern books are about have just been around too long and the writers are either too lazy/too afraid of change/too inept to create/write original, dynamic stories?

And, yeah, that friend of mine totally threw out the idea of a threesome with him, his girlfriend, and me...awkward...

Fuck, Marry, Kill:

Cassandra Nova, Amanda Mueller, or Selene (who hasn't absorbed youth and looks 92)?
Brood Queen, Lady Deathstrike, or Northstar? (I'm channeling Lola in Slacks with this one....hehe)
British Psylocke, Japanese Psylocke, or Kwannon?
Wasp, Scarlet Witch, or She-Hulk?

Rob: Emma Frost, Mary Jane, or the Black Cat?
Brian: Kitty Pryde, Dani Moonstar, or Magik?

I can't pick anyone other than Mary Jane Watson. She's slutty and classy. The best women always know how to appeal to the duality of man. Angel in public, and Devil in the sack... Not that red heads are the devil...
