Watched quite a few movies (for me) in the last 2 or 3 weeks. Can't remember if I've posted some of them here or not.
Karate Kid III. It's been way too long since I watched any movies from the franchise, but III was still pretty great. ****1/2
Komodo vs Cobra. UGH. Unintentionally funny part: Jeri Manthey (from Survivor) plays a reporter and gives a report stating that the HUGE creatures seen on her report have not been created by Hollywood special effects wizards. I'm thinking, "You're damned right they aren't." Typical crappy "B" movie, but the large breasted blonde gets killed early, making it an epic fail. *
Get Smart. Better than I was expecting, although a bit long at 1:45. Carell and Hathaway make a pretty decent team. Would've like to see The Rock have a bigger role, as he was quite good. ***1/4
Jennifer's Body. Um . . . Megan Fox is hot, and . . . she kisses her hot blonde co-star. J.K. Simmons was funny. Those were the only redeeming qualities. This was a very horrible movie. Well, Lance Henricksen showed up at the very end, and I was left wondering if he was playing Satan from his turn in The Garden. *3/4
The Shawshank Redemption for the first time in quite a few years. Just as great as I remembered. *****
My all-time favorite movie, Pulp Fiction. *****
Good Will Hunting in HD ****1/2 Great stuff.
Got my Netflix streaming disc for PS3 early last week. Watched Star Trek: First Contact in HD. Certainly my favorite featuring the NextGen cast, seeing it in its high def glory gave me a greater appreciation of the beauty of it. Except for Data's makeup. That was pretty bad. Still my 3rd favorite Trek flick. ****1/4
Followed that up in possibly the worst way possible. Checking out the horror flick offerings, I spot Teeth, and curiousity got the best of me. I remember hearing about it a couple of years ago, but hadn't watched it. I want my 90 minutes back. F*@%ing horrible this movie was. Not a single redeeming quality. DUD
The original A Nightmare on Elm Street in HD (Netflix). Very cleaned up version of the classic. It really looked great, with very little film grain visible. ****1/2
Kick-Ass (Blu-ray) - Enjoyable, but I preferred the comic. Lots of violent goodness. ***1/2
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (HD Netflix stream) - Very cleaned up for HD, it looked really great. The rest is just as awesome as it's ever been. Plenty of Shatner's . . . . . overly-dramatic . . . . . . pauses throughout. Great stuff. ****1/2
Knock, Knock (HD Netflix stream) - I'm usually a fan of stupid slasher flicks, but this was really bad. Decent enough idea for a flick, but the crappy dialogue and horrible acting kept it from being enjoyable. *
