Saw it tonight, very, very dissapointed, I wanted it to be great, even good. They tried to put way too much in, and focused on nothing instead. Movie 1 should have been Get ring, train on Oa, Manhunters return for vengeance in the midst of Hal learning the ropes, this allows us to get to know everyone and understand even more why the corps was created. Hint at the coming of parallax and Sinestros dark side. Movie 2-Hal exposes sinestro early on, sinestro gets banished, makes his ring and recruits the weaponeers of Qward for an assault, more direct mention of parralax, big Corps vs Sinestro battle on Oa or Qward(you could get John or Guy or Kyle in here too). Movie 3-Sinestro Corps war full tilt with Earth finally in the balance this time. Hector Hammond was a waste in the movie, so was Hal's family. The only thing that worked for me was the Constructs, they looked great and weren't presented as goofy at all. I can't bag on the actors, the CG, the performances or the direction. All the problems started from the jump with an AWFUL script with no continuity as to where it should go. The mid credits stinger was completely unearned as that particular character displayed zero tendencies of that sort in what we saw previously. DC, pull your crap together, please, we the fans deserve much, much better.

Finally got some free time and decided to see GL today. As a casual GL fan I thought the movie was OK but it seemd a bit crammed together. It was just a little to busy. Its a problem for many movies I think where they have lots of good material to draw from but a limited ammount of time (I blame studios) in which to make it all come together. I'm glad I had a little working knowledge of the material sort of helped me through some of the less fleshed out portions.

I don't know if Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder is classic) was the Hal Jordon I wanted but I accepted the idea that this was his beginning of a GL odyssey and he went from wild and brash to stalwart defender in pretty short order. For the most part because of the time other characters had to work with they remained somewhat shapeless. Its kind of too bad because there was some other good actors and actresses involved.

I guess overall I would give GL a C+ maybe a B- and unfortunately I have paid more to see loads worse movies.

It looks very colourful and visually exciting. It seems it might work Iron Man "Douchey Guy wins Vain redemption" formula, but Ryan Reynolds and Dane Cook out in the trailer and I do not see how this can be a good thing. However, only looks like fun, which is what I look for in a superhero movie, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Watched this on Blu-Ray at a friends place a few weeks ago. Now my friend is not a comic reader but he likes the movies. About a third through the movie he asks me if the movie gets better and I had to tell him the truth "Nope". At the end of the of the movie he wanted to watch Captain America so he could at least say he watched a good movie that day.

A month or two ago I was still convinced that GL was a really decent movie. Then I heard a podcast titled "How Did This Get Made?" starring Paul Scheer and some friends in which they lambast the Green Lantern movie in one of their episodes. After listening to them break down all the problematic pieces of the movie, I realized how right everyone was at how flawed and wrong this whole film turned out to be. So now in hindsight, I'm afraid I must eat my previous words in this thread and admit that yes, this film could have turned out to be THOUSANDS of times better. But I still like the suit, including the mask. I happen to think that those type of masks, while they happen to be part of MANY comic book characters' outfits, tend to look a little weird when translated to film. It would be almost as awkward if they kept Wolverine's yellow and black outfit for the movies.

Hopefully, the test of time will change my opinion on another movie, The Avengers; I saw that movie last night, and I didn't care for it at all. Then again, I know extremely little about the Marvel universe, so if I had known more of the source material walking in, I could've appreciated it more.

Do I still think Green Lantern was better than Thor? Absolutely. GL may have been extremely flawed, and the plot may have been poorly constructed, but Thor still in my opinion has a very flat and bare-bones plot. However, one could chalk my opinion up to the fact that I know very little about the Marvel universe. I watched Justice League: The New Frontier with my wife and while I LOVED it, she was asking me, "What in the WORLD is going on? This is stupid!" :)
