I definitely prefer this one to the first (and I liked the first one)

awesome. I love the original so much, I almost didn't want this to come out, but it looks great.

It looks like they've done really great job.
Plus, now Brad wont be "bored" by having to read subtitles.

I watched the original last year and loved it in all it's glorious weirdness. Fantastic movie. I knew this was coming but I hadn't seen any trailers.
I hope that they don't attempt to give it too much of a horror spin, that's far from the feel of the original version. The greatest thing about this movie was what wasn't said, what wasn't shown, but instead implied by the actors and the way they portrayed their feelings.

The trailer looks alright and I'll probably check it out, but I'm not really feeling it. The original movie was pretty brilliant and powerful, and I just can't see this remake coming close to it.

I've never seen the original, but Cloverfield was one of the worst movies I've ever paid to see in a theater(along with A Nightmare Before Christmas, Bruce Almighty and US Marshals). I'm not giving this director any more money, but I will watch the original at some point.

I'm definitely going to try and see both, probably get the novel if I find it--the plot sounds very interesting and, from what I've heard of both of them, they both take the source and do interesting things with it.
Also--was I the only one who liked Cloverfield? I don't see what was so bad about it.

It was a giant monster movie that managed to be neither cheesy fun or entertaining, the fact that you only see the titular creature for about 2 seconds didn't help either. Could have been America's answer to Godzilla, but it wasn't.

I loved Cloverfield. I was highly entertained. I think a lot of people(not saying anyone here, but a lot of people) write off the movie and the director because it's first person and shakey cam. I understand that a lot of people don't like that, but that's what the man was hired to do.

A 3 legged monkey with Palsy could have done that too.

Okay, but what from the direction, OTHER than that didn't you like?
EDIT: My point being, Cloverfield was a gimmick movie when it comes to the direction, regardless of the director.
Shouldn't we wait and see what he can do with a standard movie? Give the man a chance at least?

I mentioned that the film itself wasn't even entertaining in a cheesy, pulpy way. Even the worst Kaiju films have some redeeming fun quality, if only for the fun/ridiculous destruction present. Maybe its just me, I have a weird trigger when it comes to selling me on something. I watched the miniseries of the New Battlestar and the first 4 episodes and found it boring beyond words and bailed, Lost "lost" me after season 3 started and they continued to tread water, couldn't even get through the pre-hiatus batch of shows. Now before I'm attacked, this is not an attention span issue at all(I read comics for cryin out loud and I think Babylon 5 is the epitome of how you do Serialized narrative fiction on TV).
