Captain America: The First Avenger

Postby rrwerner » Wed Jun 30, 2010 3:05 pm

I'm almost a little hesitant to start this thread since I'm of the mind to wait until the final movie is out before I judge it while I know others react to every bit of news about the costume, casting, and story. But lets dive in! What are your impressions so far?

Costume: I rather that they went more traditional but I accept that the movies will make their changes. Lets see it up on the screen and see how it works.

Casting: I'm okay with the casting of Chris Evans in the lead or, more accurately, I'm waiting to see how he does to see if he can do more than "Johnny Storm". I really like the rest of the casting from Hayley Atwill as Peggy (curves, baby!!), Sam Jack as Fury, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum, Tucci as Erskine, Tommy Lee Jones as General Phillips, Hugo Weaver as the Red Skull, and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola.

I'm less worried about Evans in the lead and more worried about Joe Johnston as director. I loved THE ROCKETEER but that was 20 years ago. I'm hoping he can channel something special here rather than just crank it out and move onto the next project. He needs to get up for this one.

Your thoughts?

I don't have a heap invested in this movie, but I am pretty happy with Chris Evans being cast as Cap. I enjoyed him in FF and also in that stupid movie he did with Dakota Fanning (someone help with the name, they all had different super powers, Dakota could draw the future, etc.....)

I heard filming was suppose to start in June. I wonder if they are running late?

Okay, started June 28th (it helps to read the article first).

I love it! The movie is filming under the name FROSTBITE. Too funny!

I am trying to be optimistic but I am somewhat nervous to see what happens. That said I was nervous when the first started working on Batman Begins as well so hopefully all will be good!

I saw the movie "Sunshine" last night. I don't know if Evans was Cap worthy in it, but he was certainly damn good.

I have a bad feeling about this.

I don't see Chris Evans as having the ability to be serious enough to pull this off. I certainly don't think of Cap when I look at him. I dont think that Cap has a sense of humor, either, and Evans has one hard-wired in.

i'm just hoping it will be a decent movie,at least. i mean, chris evans?? anyway, nothing can be done about that now. i hope joe johnston is passionate about this character/movie so that we'll have a good movie.

(still..chris evans?? cap is the LAST character i see when i look at him...)

I put Chris Evans in the Michael Keaton category. We're all skeptical now, but man did he deliver. Now, 20 years later I wouldn't consider him the best, but in 1989 you can be damn sure I was sold on him.

Give him a chance. If he's actually an "Actor" this could be the greatest casting job of all time. If he's one note, we'll find out. My feeling is we're going to be surprised and he sells it.

But there is always that chance we'll get Nick Cage's Ghost Rider instead. :(

Well he looked great and did well in The Losers. I think Evans will pull off Capt. alright.

If you haven't seen Push, give it a look for Chris Evans. It's not the greatest movie in the world but it shows that Evans has a little more range as an actor. He's not the complete goofball we always see him as.

According to Digital Trends, the Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger will be shot in 2-D but converted to 3-D afterwards.

Also, expect the directors of both movies along with the cast at next week's Comic-Con (panel is late afternoon on Saturday).

Possible Cap movie location in Wales?

Baron Zemo in movie?

(seems like, if they are going to show Cap waking up in the modern day, they'd have an exploding drone plane and Zemo sequence to end the WWII scenes)
