What Books Are You Reading

I'm almost done with Confess, Fletch by Gregory McDonald. I want to read Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher (book 8 of the Dresden Files) but my library doesn't have it, so I applied for an inter library loan. So, I think next I'll start the first book of the Dragonlance Chronicles. I've read them before, and the Legends Trilogy which comes after. I've even read any of the Margaret Weis Tracy Hickman Dragonlance stuff that came after, so I'm shooting to read them all in 2011.

I've decided to add a few "real books" to the library list along with the OGN's and trade. First up, Dead Even by Brad Meltzer. I enjoyed Tenth Justice. If this works out, I might even try a non-fiction book.

I've only read two books by Brad Meltzer. The Millionaires and the Book of Lies. I really enjoyed both of them.

I'll have to make a point to read more Brad Meltzer in 2011.

Just finished reading "The Girl Who Played With Fire" which I found to be just as enjoyable as the previous book in the series "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." I also read "Catching Fire" from the "Hunger Games" series over the holidays and it was amazing- can't wait to read the finale. I recommend "The Hunger Games" series to everyone. Next I have just started the first in the Dexter series that the showtime series is based off of "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" the book is really good so far and I am looking forward to more.

Finished The Hangman's Daughter- if you like historical fiction you owe it to yourself to give this book a go. After that I read the final Hunger Games book Mockingjay which I really enjoyed. Now I am reading "The Book Thief" which is the story of a young orphan girl in Germany at the beginning of World War 2. It is very very interesting if you are at all interest in wartime europe without actually dealing with the war.

Listened to The time Machine by HG Wells. Picked up from the library, mostly because it was short. I have the Audiobook for 52 on hold and I don't want to commit to something else while I wait. It was ok, read by the same guy as It's Superman, but with an English accent.

Currently listening to Bradbury 13, which are audioplays based on Ray Bradbury short stories, It's very good.

I'm reading reading Catalyst: The Passage of Hellsfire by Marc Johnson (host of the V for Vertigo podcast) It an interesting little fantasy book.

I loaded up my iPad with a crapload of ebooks. I am currently making the rounds with:

Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd, various authors

Eating The Dinosaur, Chuck Klosterman

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, Chuck Klosterman

Consider The Lobster, David Foster Wallace

The nice thing is I can go back and forth since they are all short essays and stories that are unrelated.

I started reading the Wild Cards novels, collections of short stories in a shared universe where the Earth is exposed to a virus that gives some people super powers.

I'm currently on the second book and really enjoying it, each story is written by a new authoer, and they all kind of feed into an overall plot.

I just picked up Ghost Wars by Steve Coll which explores the relationship the CIA has had with Afghanistan from the time period of the Cold War to September 11th.

I also picked up The Military Advantage which is basically a book that tells you a bunch of information you need to know about when joining and while you are in the military. I am about to join the U.S. Army so I felt like this book would be extremely helpful to me.

Pamp, I love the John C. Maxwell books, I am constantly trying to improve my leadership and personal skills, so I have a bunch of his books. If you like what you read let me know, I can recommend you some other books by him.

I was on a big Brad Meltzer kick a while back as well, but ever since I have read The Zero Game, I have been apprehensive about approaching any of his other titles (and I own Book of Fate and Book of Lies). The book just seemed to never slow down and I thought the plot and ending were not completely original at all. If you like that sort of thriller/action/political genre, I highly encourage all of you to check out the Shane Schofield novel series and the Jack West Jr. novel series all written by Matthew Reilly. Have nothing but good things to say about all of his books.

It's pretty good, but probably not one of my favourites (even though I love the idea of having it narrated by death).
It's definetely worth checking out, though.

Just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (great read once you get past the corporate minutia at the beginning and end).

I am now reading The Dude De Ching (getting ready for Lebowski Fest in Louisville, Kentucky).

I am going to start The Hunger Games next (I'll be teaching it in the fall, so I have to get a head start).

I keep hearing good things about The Hunger Games . . . I may have to start that once I'm done with Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series . . . which I am reading now . . . at work.

I'm reading Lonesome Dove at home.

And I'm listening to the Stand in the car.

I've just finished Carte Blanch the new James Bond novel by Jeffery Dever, not bad but I got a bit fed up with the twists at the end of each chapter it's a bit like the old serials where at the end of the episode the hero would be strapped into a car heading off a cliff, and then the next episode you would see that the hero actually got out five minutes before the car went over the edge, not sure if this is a thing Dever does but it did wear thin in the end.
