I caught up on the SWMM eps a while ago and now I'm working on the STMM eps. Caught up to the STII/STIII Episode and loving it. Keep up the good work!

Quoth Joe: "in a way having Picard when he was assimilated having somewhat of an individual personality (being the only named Borg, well that we know of) it also a deviation from the original idea of the Borg."

No doubt; however, the distinction between that deviation and the Borg Queen deviation is that the former was explained (as I recall) as a direct result of the Borg's encounter with the Enterprise in season 2's "Q Who?". The plan to abduct Picard -- who, after that point, the Collective knew to be an important human leader -- and transform him into Locutus (in a sense, "aping" human individuality so he could serve as a spokesman -- and after that, I presume, be discarded, having served his purpose) as an "accomodation" to human individuality.... All that was, in a sense, just one more way in which the Collective "adapted" toward their ultimate goal of assimilating all.

The Borg Queen, on the other hand, we were expected to believe was (a) not only part of the Collective's structure all along but also (b) present with Picard/Locutus during the events of BOBW. I still give it a pass in this movie alone, because it has a certain kind of logic to it if not pressed too far (the queen bee/queen ant analogy, discussed by Chris and Shag) but also because Krige played the part so well. After that, however, it became a crutch on which "Voyager" hobbled all too frequently. (One of far too many crutches, imo)

Or, more succinctly: the Borg Queen was a retcon. Locutus was a logical next step.

That was a great breakdown Mike.
"I believe in Rock And Roll!"

At the altar of rock 'n' roll you kneel.
A slave who forever rocks,
Is chained in the devil's locks,
And slain by the bloody axe I wail!"

Love the change to do two episodes of Next Gen each month. I am excited to hear your thoughts on the later seasons as they were my favorites. I have really enjoyed your looks at the early episodes - there are some clunky moments in the early stuff but your reviews have given me new appreciation for season one. Your special episodes on ST: TMP and ST: The Search for Spock had a similar effect. I used to hold to the old "odd numbered Trek movies suck" mantra but I have totally changed my mind. TMP is becoming one of my favorite Trek movies. And the scores for the first three movies - oh man - I always loved the score for Khan but I had never really listened to the scores for for 1 and 3. Wow- I have picked up the newest expanded versions of those scores and I can't stop playing them. You guys have really turned me on to Classic Trek as well. I found Trek through Khan on HBO as a kid and I always loved the films but I never really watched Trek TV until Next Gen. I love your classic episode reviews as they have opened up a whole new area of Trek I have never really explored.

I have always been a fan of Star Wars and Star Trek, and I always considered myself a Star Wars fan first. But your show has really brought up my fandom of Trek to where I have to say that my love of both is equal. Now I just have to go get some classic Trek on Netflix since they took the full episodes off of the CBS site...

I'd still like to do a commentary for ST:TMP. The problem, besides finding the time, is that the version I'd most want to do, the "Special Longer Version", isn't readily commercially available. I'll have to do the currently available version, the Director's Cut or Edition, I forget which it is called, which I LIKE, but it's not my favorite version. But this is still on my agenda.
