One of the things that drew me to the Freaks was that Star Trek and Star Wars were treated with equal reverence - as they should be.

Another was the going over all of the extra Trek/SW:EU stuff that I got overwhelmed by when I managed a LCS years ago - seemed like there were new canonical books every fucking week and I just threw up my arms and said 'fuck it - I can't give a shit about something 2000 years before SW' - so I enjoy someone going thru with a critical eye and really appreciate you doing the heavy lifting sorting thru the dreck and the worthwhile. Feel free to spoil the shit out of the books as far as I am concerned.

I do have a love of the Marvel Star Wars and had a spotty assortment in my youth - but after the green rabbit showed up when I was 10, I really didn't consider it 'real' Star Wars, but fuck, it was all there was to be had in 1978!

Nowadays, I get a kick outta putting the Monthly Monday cbrs on the iPad and following along - same with the Trek comics I ignored as a kid - I doubt if I will ever fully get over my crusty old 'If it's not the movie, I'm not interested' but I do like the retro reviews and rockin the cbrs along at home.

PS: I enjoyed the shit out of ST:V - put Shatner behind the wheel for 5 minutes and Kirk even kicks God's ass! Fuck YEAH!
PPS: The movie I watch the least out of ALL the Trek movies is far and away ST:IV - and III and VI do NOT get enough love IMO.

On the vid: WWF Tuesday Night Titans 7/3/84
On the cbr: Star Wars 66-68 of course.

Re: Paper Chase DVDs -- Yeah, I know they are out legitimately now. I am glad. I only meant that I was watching them, and then stopped, and haven't gone back to them. I loved that series as a teen. It almost -- almost -- made me want to go to law school!

@rd -- for the record, Kirk isn't kicking God's ass. He's kicking the wannabe god's ass. ;-)

Hey guys, I was listening to episode 108, where you talked about Empire Strikes Back. At one point you guys say that it was too bad that there was not an Empire Christmas Special. I beg to differ -- you guys have never heard of A Very Star Wars Christmas?

Listening to SWMM #30; if y'all are ever looking for help reviewing Star Wars novels, let me know. Y'all are talking about the original Han Solo trilogy vs. the AC Crispin trilogy as I listen; due to my age I read the Crispin books first and loved them. I actually really liked the original trilogy too, I bought the 3-in-1 paperback at the beach one summer a couple of years after reading the Crispin books and couldn't put it down.

Hey, MY Ronald McDonald wouldn't act that way! Next thing you know, he'll probably be renouncing his Playland citizenship, too!

Okay. This episode caused me to fall into the f'n Wookieepedia gravity well for at least 2 hours today looking up Fenn Shyssa - my vision is still blurry.

Jesus, there's a 10,000 word entry on 'Jacen Solo' and I had never even heard of him - Han & Leia have a son who becomes a Sith Lord?

SWEET CHRISTMAS! What the Hell?

Did Lucas intend on the EU thing being 100% open ended from what appears to be the Beginning of Time to the End of the (Expanded) Universe?

You guys will definitely need to do an 'Idiot's Guide to the Clusterfuck That is the EU Timeline' series or some shit - after clicking on 5 or 7 different cross referenced and hyperlinked 'Solos' and 'Skywalkers' from POST Jedi continuity, I passed out.

I came to and remembered these things:

Gene Day was fucking AWESOME.
David Michelinie had as good or better grasp of the Original SW vibe than any of the other 70s writers -
The word Mandalorian is cool as fuck.

On another note - all my recent SW activity has piqued my wife's interest and since she was only a year old when Empire came out, she has only the 'normal human' perspective of SW.

We are going to go thru all six films - I've got the SkyTV HD 1080p Original Trilogy and the BR Prequels - but the question is:

How would you screen the six to the uninitiated?

My gut is saying order of release is the only way to go -

I've never watched in 'numerical order' and am afraid it wouldn't have the same impact on a first timer.

Addendum:

Here's a nifty link to compare DVD vs the SkyTV rips (the only real HD SW:OT until 09/2011)

A link to the Amazon comment and knife fight/one star boycott campaign over the OT:SE BluRay release makes for interesting reading:

Well, started read Dark Force Rising last week. Evidently I am way behind the curve on these Star Wars books, but I thought Heir To The Empire was pretty good. Certainly not drop dead amazing but good enough that I picked up the next two.

@rd666 - In regards to the Star Wars EU, it is pretty open ended with only a few segments/issues put off limits by Lucas at different point in time. In fact, I think a lot of the creators prefer working at either end of the timeline instead of cramming more stuff around the film periods.

@ljacone - I hope you enjoy the Thrawn Trilogy, a lot of people consider that one of the EU's high water points.

I throw in my two quatloos for release order, as well. Although I do intend to watch in numerical order when the blu-rays come out, so we'll see -- but, honestly, I'm so familiar with all six films at this point, I can't objectively pretend I'll be "following the saga as it unfolds."
