Looks like there's a new trailer out today. Based on a screen cap we might actually finally see a Guardian.

If anyone has seen Thor, the GL trailer is attached to that.
Personally, I think this is going to be one of the worst movies of the summer and I love GL!
I finally saw what the guardians look like and they look like bobbleheads to me and incredibly cartoony in a movie where they have tried to make all the alien lifeforms look realistic.

I love Mark Strong as an actor, but why did they have him keep his damn British accent as Sinestro???
And I really don't see Blake Lively as Carol Ferris at all, she isn't even close to be shapely, she is a stick figure!
Did they really have to change the way the battery looked as well? To make it look so alien and weird?

Yeah, I know I am doing some hardcore bashing but I love this character and to see them take it in the direction they have just disappoints me.

A few things about the new trailer...

I like the clear plexiglass helmets the Guardians seem to be wearing. They remind me of the ones that the Metalunans from This Island Earth wore. That's a neat/humorous callback.

The explaination at the beginning was perfect. It summed up the whole idea of what a Green Lantern is in less than a minute of visuals and dialogue.

And though we get to see more of the constructs that Hal is going to be using in the film, I was thrilled that they showed Hal just having fun and cutting loose on Oa. For far too long, DC comic movies have had their characters be to grim and serious. It's nice to see one of them just enjoy the fact that they have a "unique gift" before they have to get into the whole seriousness of saving the town/world/universe.

Joe -- That "fun aspect" was what made Iron Man work, and I think Martin Campbell is trying to capture that in this film -- Anthrax

Yeah...it's sitting at a whopping 20% on the Tomato Meter at . Sadly, I'll still go see it this weekend and hope that critics are just worn out on superhero movies and this is why they're ripping it apart...

Watched the 11:30 AM 3D showing today of Green Lantern. Not bad, but not great. I thought it was okay, bordering on good. I thought Reynolds was weak as Jordan for the most part. He became more believable as Hal in the last third of the flick. DAMN, I get goosebumps when I hear the oath, and this was no exception. CGI was outstanding, and there were only a couple of rough spots as far as 3D goes. Loved the training stuff. I was wishing there was more of that. I love Angela Bassett, but she in no way came across as Amanda Waller to me. Blake Lively looks great, but I was really bored during most of the Carol/Hal stuff. Most of the action scenes were done really well, outside of the Hot Wheels track thing. The kids near me seemed to dig it, though.

I'll go back tomorrow to see it in 2D, and see how it does/doesn't hold up. There's a nice setup for a sequel (in the middle of the ending credits), so I hope it kicks a$$ at the box office. There were probably a total of 25 people seeing the first showing of the day with me. Of course, it's Friday and folks are at work.

I wasn't excited to see this.something about the trailers seemed off to me.and i didn't buy ryan reynolds and blake lively from the get-go. That said,my expectations weren't high.

It was ok. Cg was better than i expected.the acting was ok,but i liked all thr other characters except for the leads.guess i couldn't get over my bias against them.

Oh,well. Next dc movie please? Oh,and dc doesn't appear to be in a 'movie-world building' mode...

I think I'm seeing GL for father's day tomorow..... the fact you guys did not kill it gives me hope that I will like it. I have been trying to keep my expectations down a bit because I was really afraid that someone would totaly botch this film. Fingers crossed and happy father's day to you other dads out there.

Saw it yesterday, and have no idea what everyone's problem was leading up to this, because I thought it was great!

As I walked out, I had to ask myself if I was sure I liked it as a movie or if my excitement of seeing these characters brought to life on screen was clouding my judgment... after all, I remember initially loving Superman Returns and it wasn't until after it came out on video that I realized my sheer happiness at finally seeing another Superman film arrive after such a long hiatus affected my opinion of the movie at the time. But I have to say, I believe this works as a movie!

I saw it at a Cinemark XD theater in 3D -- for those who haven't heard of XD, it's a nice alternative to IMAX. I've seen too many movies on an IMAX screen that weren't actually shot for IMAX and they've all appeared too blown up and fuzzy to me; XD is another HUGE epic presentation, with a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall screen and all digital, and it is breath-taking! Definitely worth it.

You can only do so much with Green Lantern's world when making it a commercial movie; after all, it is a little out there. Just imagine the average, unknowing teenage/young adult female -- who knows nothing about comics but will still see a comic book movie because it looks cool -- and their reaction when they're presented with Tomar-Re's character on the screen. The filmmakers are burdened with an extremely difficult task of making stuff like Tomar-Re believable/acceptable to that girl in the audience, yet keeping him authentic enough without making her go, "Wait, HUH?? What IS this?! This is too weird for me."

One might respond to that by asking me if I think this movie is made for that audience, the one that girl belongs to. Yes, I do. Figures have shown that the teenage and young adult female audience is the primary driving force behind box office sales today. Based on what I've read, it's the reason why the studio wanted a Ryan Reynolds-type for this movie -- they say Ryan Reynolds was cast because the ladies love him, and guys want to be bro's with him. He does bring the ladies to the theater. For those who think my point here isn't very strong, then tell me why the studio's third choice for the role (if they couldn't get either Bradley Cooper or Reynolds) was Justin Timberlake. I know, right?!? That was a close one. Whew!

Back to the film, I saw it with a friend and my brother-in-law. They both loved it as well... my brother-in-law knew just a little bit about Green Lantern's background before seeing it, but my other friend watched it not knowing anything about the story before going in. Having said that, it was awesome hearing his "What?!? No way!!" reaction to that cliffhanger they showed during the credits. To those of us who know the littlest bit of Green Lantern's story it is not a spoiler at all; but I was wondering beforehand that if they showed this particular thing happen in the movie, if it would be convincing to an unknowing audience... well, my friend is living proof.

And a good time was had by all... :)

Really? I think the concept is simpler than Superman's......SPACE COPS.

I don't know, I enjoyed the movie... and this is coming from someone who always found the Green Lantern comics a little rough to read through. I never thoroughly enjoyed them, just appreciated some of the spirit contained within them. And I thought the movie captured the spirit I enjoyed from the comics quite nicely.

Was it a flawed movie? Of course. You can only do so much with a Green Lantern movie. Was it too flawed? Not in my opinion.

And I have to say the movie was MUCH more deeply layered than Thor, a film I found to be EXTREMELY one-dimensional where -- while it did have a few okay moments -- the bad outweighed the good.

Overall I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I'm disappointed that it wasn't a little more family/kid friendly. Opening on Father's Day weekend I wouldn't take a 7-8 year old to see it.

I think the story and the pacing had some issues. We'll be talking about it tonight on LOD.

I went in the movie with low expectations and I enjoyed the movie. I felt that the CGI for 70 to 80 percent of the movie was really good. I felt the acting across the board was decent. I saw the movie with two friend who know nothing about Green Lanterns minus the brief description I gave them over lunch and they really enjoyed the movie. I do agree that there was some pacing issues and while I geeked out over the post credits scene the motivation for the scene was not explained. overall it wasa good not great movie.
