Just watched Splice at the dollar theater. Much better than I thought it would be but I thought it would be really really bad. It wasn't a good movie but it was okay, more suited for life on the SyFy channel but for a buck, why not. Trying to get my wife to go see Predators tonight, not sure how that's going to work out.

Hit the theater to watch Predators yesterday, then watched Robocop for the first time in about 15 years. Looks pretty good on blu-ray. Still an enjoyable movie. Followed that up Let the Right One In. Nice movie about a young boy who is befriended by a vampire. Can't say it's a horror movie, but a few people do get attacked. Not something I'd watch on a regular basis, but still a good flick.

Saw Repo Men, Brooklyn's Finest and the A-Team this weekend.

Brooklyn's Finest was ok, bunch of big name people in it. Actually the more I think about the more I didn't really like it.

Repo Men was good, had some ups and downs. But the idea that Jude Law had to pay for his own heart from a on the job injury seems stupid. Worst L&I ever!

A-Team was a lot of fun. Wife and I loved it. Just a good old action movie!

I watched Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix for the first time. I loved it.

Sometimes I forget the pedigree that is directly involved with the Potter films:

Ralph Fiennes
Michael Gambon
Imelda Staunton
Gary Oldman
Helena Bonham Carter
Brendan Gleeson
David Thewlis
Alan Rickman
Emma Thompson
Robbie Coltrane

The list is a virtual who's who in the British acting community. I think it's a real credit to the franchise that so many talented and brilliant performers wish to be involved with the films.

I watched Push with Chris Evens, and I'll have to say I really liked it. I was going into it thinking i t was going to be like jumper. It had a plot so that was a good start. Over all it was a fantastic movie that didn't break any new grounds but it was a solid movie.

So, I'm currently judging a film festival in my hometown of Naperville...WOOT WOOT! Anywho, I watched a handful of short films and documentaries last night, some good, many not so good. There was this one documentary about college age drinking, which was 8 minutes long, and about 4 minutes in they lost me. The film was called iDrink and they were spotlighting two African American teens away at college. One female and one male. The female was just a bimbo, lush with a tiny bit of ambition. The male however...they're interviewing this kid and he explains why he goes to clubs. Here's where they lost me:

EXPLICIT MATERIAL BELOW

The young black male, when asked why he drinks and goes to clubs says, "So I can $%#@ fine white bitches."

I have no problem with the young man's intent, because that's what teen boys do. I have a problem with the fact that it's an 8 minute documentary and that's the best interviewee you can come up with? How do you present that as your best possible effort?

Some of the short films in the film festival that I've seen, that have some web presence, and I think are worth check out are:

Educating Cooper (clip from the film)-

The Elusive Man (trailer)-

Toxic Oranges*: A Wall Street Fairy Tale (IMDB Page)-

Others that I liked but seem to have no real web presence:

Kidnap (an really cute animated short)

Hold Up (a robbery gone wrong, with a couple of predictable twists; amusing however)

Evolution (If I remember correctly, it's about a gay couple and their diverging tastes in art; very funny and well acted, impossible to find on the net, since there are a billion films with the same title)

Bigger, Stronger, Faster- A documentary about Steroid use in Maerica. A documentary that does that has the rare idea of showing both sides of the argument. The director and host is looking at the use of steroids in America and is questioning whether the use of steroids is good or bad. They do not shove their beliefs down your throat. The host admits to have used steroids and stopping. Both sides of the argument are shown and the documentary does not draw a conclusion for you. Highly recommended

It's not 'recent' but I re-watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High last night before bed.

Forgot what insanely entertaining film that is.

Spicolli for President.

Demoane for VP.
