Not to go off on too much of a tangent, but the dark and dire feel that Ronald Moore began with in DS9 and continued with in BSG was the basis for me dropping the entire series of new Galactica. Even though Section 31 and the Dominion War had entered DS9 and made it a more grim show, it still had its moments of triumph and uplifting storytelling. BSG was nothing more than an ever increasing pile-up of horrible situations brought upon a beleaguered crew that had no moments of joy. Over the course of a few days, I watched the first two seasons of BSG back to back, and by the time I was done, I hated the show, despite the fact that it was well written and acted. I don't have a problem with sci-fi shows exploring dark, controversial issues, but to focus the show on nothing but paranoia, violence, and mistrust is not what I wanted in my sci-fi show.

Joe -- Religious aspects or not, that show was unrelentingly grim, and failed to do what a good sci-fi should, which is entertain and uplift -- Anthrax

I watched the new BSG miniseries on a whim and it quickly became one of my favorite shows of the last decade (next to Lost). It was unrelenting and full of paranoia and dark - but that made their victories more sweet. I loved that show.

It's so funny how opinions can vary - Season 2 was my favorite...

Back to ST - what are the next STMM eps? For STMM I think it is 'Is there in Truth, no Beauty?' and for STMM-D I think it is 'Conspiracy' and 'Neutral Zone'? Did the Freaks talk about 'We'll always have Paris'?

Awesome, I already watched 'Paris' so I just need to watch the other two and I'll be good to go for next STMM. Now that they are all on Netflix I am trying to watch as y'all go through...

My general thoughts on Is there in Truth, no Beauty?
- The visors to protect themselves from the Medusans are awesome.
- The visual representation of the Medusan reminded me of the old Metallica Load, reLoad album covers.
- What is the deal with fine dining uniforms? Scottie's has a kilt!
- Grapple! The crew can't grapple to stop the guy in Engineering until Kirk gets there and grapples him best.
- Kirk stopping the Medusan occupied Spock from soliloquy at the end totally had a subtext of "No one gives speeches around here except me"

Below is a video of the infamous rock creature. Not sure if I posted this here in the past. Also part 1 and 2 of the making of STV.

Yeah.... that wasn't going to change minds of people. Looked pretty cool though.

True, it doesnt change the story, but who wouldnt want to see tussle with some Rock-Men? Would have been very Classic Series Trek. The final design was pretty cool, would have been cool to see a dozen of those guys lumbering around.

Personally I thought the film did take a step down in quality when they met god (Kirk meeting god is just so rad) but not to the extent you guys did. The film is really harmless it's not like say cough ahem Generations where it actively insults Star Trek and the viewer's intelligence.

The most insulting thing about generations was the reuse of footage from other films to cut costs.

Personally I thought Kirk's David style death was the most insulting. Seriously? Your not even going to get his dead body you bald ass?

Read "The Return". They did go back for Kirk's body... but were beaten to it by the Borg!

Hope Scott & Chris don't mind, but if you need a DS9 fix, I found this podcast

Listening to their first few episodes now. Not as nutty as Scott & Chris, but good for a listen to a show going episode by episode for DS9's run.

I've heard a lot of great things about "The Return" I still need to check it out. Not that it deters me from reading it; but aren't those books an alternate 'Shatnerverse'?
