Xmen 1st Class (mostly spoiler free)

Me and a friend saw the early morning show today. The theater was nearly full and I did not hear any booing or hissing from the masses. My friend was less into super hero comics than I was as a kid but he has found most of the Xmen movies to be good and he said he liked this one as well.

I thought it was good but not great... and I'm not sure what it was that I found a little blah about the story. Maybe it was the pace because at times there were some really excellent scenes followed by some minutes of "head scratching" Another thing that bummed me out a little was the choice of heroes used in the story... I won't name which ones but they had a couple that were never real high on my fave list and with so many characters driving this film they could not fully flesh them all out compellingly... On the other hand there was a badass or 2 that I was unfamiliar with from my comic days that were scene stealing show stoppers.

I also found James Mcavoy a little bit of a distraction as a young Prof X. Its not that he did not portray the character well but a couple times I Wanted him to break into full on bullet bending assassin mode..... Will they please do another Wanted...

Magneto... Badass nuff said

Its a good story I can't imagine comic fans not enjoying it.

I caught I Am Number Four. Not a bad movie. A little slow and there were some plot issues but pretty good. Written by Alfred Cough and Miles Millar and Marti Noxon. So it had that Buffy/Smallville feel to it.

Went to a seminar in Baton Rouge today with my boss. The class ended at noon, so we went to see a movie before heading back. He was paying, and he wanted to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon. I wasn't terribly enthused, but it was a free movie. Well, it was . . . marginally better than the 2nd movie. Much of the action had sllllloooooowwwwww motion sequences, so it was a bit easier to understand what was happening during the fights. Way too many attempts at humor with Sam's parents, and the 2 mini Autobots that live with Sam and his new piece of ass. Pretty horrible dialogue throughout, although Peter Cullen (Optimus) and LEONARD NIMOY (Sentinel Prime) did an awesome job with what they were given. Megan Fox's replacement did all of . . . look really hot. There's even a scene during the final battle where she's just standing there, doing nothing, for several seconds. Shockwave and Soundwave were pretty cool.

The most stupid thing (perhaps): After a predictable heel turn by Sentinel Prime and he & the Decepticons use the space bridge to bring a buttload of Decepticons to Earth, the U.S. Government bans the Autobots. From Earth. So they can fight the big scary robots, since they've been so effective in their efforts so far. When the Autobot swerve happens, it's not mentioned that the gub'ment is in on the 'Bots plans. Did the Autobots plan the swerve on their own? I guess. At least the minstrel show Autobots weren't in this. 4.5/10

Watch Devil this morning. It's about a group of people that get trapped on an elevator with the devil (or a demon) and get killed one-by-one. About as exciting as a group of people being trapped on an elevator sounds like. It was different for a horror flick, but not very good.

I saw a special screening of Friends With Benefits. It was actually a lot funnier than I anticipated.

Finally watched GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra last night before True Blood started. Pretty decent, but not great. Loved the vehicles, especially seeing the USS Flag at the end. A lot of the humor fell flat, and I didn't care for the guy that played Duke. I really liked Destro and the Cobra Commander/Dr. Mindbender hybrid. I know Mindbender was a different guy in the movie, but they seemed to combine them both for CC. I loved the Snake-Eyes-Stormshadow stuff, although I didn't like the sculpted lips on SE's mask. That just looked weird. I liked the bit with Zartan, and hope that gets followed up in the sequel.

Watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II today with my boss. We got there for the first showing at 11:00. 45 minutes before show time, there were about 50 people in line ahead of us. In a pleasant surprise, the kiddies were quiet during the movie. Fantastic movie, and a great way to end the series. Very cool twists and surprises, for those of us that haven't read the books, that is. *****

The trailer for The Dark Knight Rises was one of the trailers shown, and there wasn't much to it. Half of it was clips from the first 2 Nolan movies. Still, it's enough to get me excited for next year.

I saw Horrible Bosses last night.

It was really funny.

Jennifer Aniston shocked me. In a good way.

I watched Dream Home on Sunday on Netflix. Listed as a horror movie, but it was more gruesome killing than scary. Very good Hong Kong flick about a woman who is obsessed with buying a flat overlooking the sea. Flashbacks between killings show why she wants to live there, and how she gets to the point she's at. Very solid movie. 8/10

Finally watched Green Lantern over the weekend. I don't know if it was all the negative reviews that I had low expectations but I actually enjoyed what I saw.

Hell, even for people who aren't into fantasy football, or watching sports in general(like me) it's a great show.
